IP Address

This isn't the reason my PayPal account got suspended forever but this did give me a small limitation once (all sorted after identity documents were sent in):

Usually logged into PayPal from home computer/various computers on the same network, so same IP.
Tried to log in through a mobile phone once and account was temporarily limited due to different IP.

My IP seems to change whenever I reboot my router. Dynamic, I guess.
We have to reboot our router quite a lot as sometimes, it just fails. Or it fails for one of us and we have to reset it. So my IP is going to constantly be changing anyway.

But isn't this just the same as logging in from a different IP address again, same as a mobile or different computer? Won't they flag the account?

No, I change mi IP up to 20 times a day - it is not an issue:pop2:

Make sure accounts don't share cookies and other registration info.

Imakemoney 06-28-2011 09:39 AM

Better to have a different IP than one already used with a linked account.

I also change IP 20odd times a day with no problems.

What ISP have you got?

But as rsot states make sure you dont get linked via cookies.

I'm with TalkTalk (previously Tiscali). We have 5 people in the same house using the connection from a router. Was told the IP was static but it seems to change when the router restarts so it can't be.

A new user profile on Windows will mean different cookies, right?

rsot 06-28-2011 11:17 AM

Yes new user profile will mean different cookies.

You can check just using IPbuger each time, then make sure you record them on a spreadsheet or somethings similar.

It must be dynamic if its changing each time you restart the router.

Yes new windows user keeps your cookies seperate.

Hate to drag up an old(ish) topic, but I'm also with TalkTalk and have a dynamic IP.

My concern is that if PayPal were to do a manual review they'd see me logging in from either 78.28.**** or 84.210.**** which is fine, especially as I've yet to see the same IP address twice. But on my old legit suspended accounts I logged in from exactly the same range of IP addresses. Could they put two and two together possibly?

Elisek 07-10-2011 06:20 AM

I've heard that unless you're using exactly the same IP address as a suspended account, they won't be able to tell as so many other people's IP's could be from the same range.
From what I've read here, all it takes is one number on the IP to be different and that's enough for them. As long as they have nothing else that can link your accounts together.

However, I'm not an expert so I wouldn't take my word. I'd ask either Imakemoney, GrannyT or ShadyOne to make sure. They know what they're talking about!

Think logically here

Any ISP only has so many IP addresses. They cannot create new ones.

Not everybody is on line at the same time so all those people who have logged off have no need for an IP - that means it can be allocated to someone else - A bit like airlines overbooking because they know that the limited number of seats will only be claimed by a certain number of people

Once you accept that is how it works it is obvious that what ever IP you get allocated has been used before. It may well have been used by someone suspended from EB.

That is why EB do not just work off of the IP address when they are suspending accounts.

If more than one Ebay ID is logging onto Ebay at the same time from the same IP address you can expect them to view it as suspicious and suspend accounts. This can be a problem for people using public WiFi or leaching off a neighbours IP

Think logically
