sky changed to MER (MAC encapsulated routing) it gives you a sticky dynamic ip. you can no longer turn sky routers on and off right away to change ip. like i said above its been talked about on here quite alot over the past few weeks. it has been said that turning it off for 3 hours does not change it, but 4 hours does. so i just leave mine off overnight:)

i admit sometimes it plays up and can take upto half hour of messin about but most of the time it changes

if what you say is right then that mite explain why sometimes it takes a few times

but over night mate,no need for that,not in my experience

keep doing it until it changes

report back and i will update if i experience anything too

i change my sky router ip about 5 times a day

it has always been like this too,ever since i got sky about a year back

its not hit all routers yet. i think they do it in waves. if you check the settings on your router page your 'network settings' will either be PPPoA or MER. MER has been put in place to stop people using there own routers as there is no longer a password. you have to spoof the mac on a new router. (not tried just what i read a while ago). since they did this if you have MER you will also no longer be able to turn the router on and off right away to change ip. they have become very sticky.

and yes i have tried to turn my router (sagem 2504n) off and on right away multiple times and the ip stays put, unless turned off for several hours.

i would def not recommend sky for p changing

think bt & talk talk are good for ip...both dynamic

or there is always the good ol'dongle

think am gonna start using mine if this sky ip problem gets any worse and it does seem to be getting worse come to think about it

al see what my network settings says and report back

3rd time lucky

it just changed,turned router off for about 30 seconds

cant see pppoa or MER in my settings

tell me exactly where to look coz i could not find network settings only change adapter settings

go to the setup page for the sky router. then head over to maintenance, once there you will see 'ADSL PORT' info. then you will see 'network type' next to it will either be PPPoA or MER

if you have no idea how to get into the router type 192.168.0.1 into your browser. if it asks you for user name and password they are below

user name - admin
password - sky

And wtfudge has sky got to do with the topic of a bank account :doh:

haha dude do u live with parents or summat? they would of changed the password. the user name and password i gave you is skys default.

see i told you. the only reason you are able to do what you are doing is because you have not changed to MER yet. and your VERY lucky not to. but like i said they are changing people in waves across the country, so it will happen. just search google for 'sky MER' and you will see.
