Default IP address on ebay different than ipchicken

I first noticed this last summer so this is nothing new, but I've discovered that my IP number that shows up on ipchicken, whatsmyip, ect is different from ebay. How I found this out is, whenever I've changed account information (i.e. password, user name, ect) I would get a notifacation email from ebay confirming the change and at the bottom of the email would be my IP address. Example: on the same computer ipchicken would tell me my ip is 71.55.xxx.xxx but ebay would tell me my ip is 10.3.xx.xx or something of that nature. Other sites, like emusic, do the same thing if I fill out a support ticket or change account info.

Does anyone know why this is? I've made exhaustive searches for info on this and have never found an answer. I switch modems when I'm using different accounts so my ip address at ipchicken is never the same on different accounts but I have no idea what kind of numbers my computer is sending ebay. This is really weird because I never no what my ip address with ebay because it never shows up as "71.55.xxx.xxx" even though every ip checking site does.

Where does eb tell you your IP? I have not seen this.

Question for you - are you using a VPN or some IP mask?

No I'm not using anything. The IP is shown at the bottom of the email.

Hi hecubus

I have recently noticed the same problem you are dealing with.

I use an IP through cable modem so NO VPN or IP change software whatsoever.

When you use the "CHANGE EMAIL FUNCTION" you will receive a different IP then the one you are actual using.

The range of these IP's is also different from the ones that my ISP provides.

Did you also trace these IP's? Notice that these are al located in different countries?

Do you also get a different IP everytime you request email change? Even when you do it 3 times in 20 seconds, you will get 3 different IP's?

Thanks,

Uber

IPs show up on the email header I think.

Not sure this is an issue

Have you images etc disabled as recommended?

The IPs do not show in the header of the email.

The IP's from eBay start with 10.x.x.x or 66.x.x.x

Images are blocked in gmail

I would not worry much about the IP being assigned by eB - your external IP is more important.

So you guys think that eBay is still logging my real external IP (provided by my ISP) instead of the bogus IP (213.162.68.211) eBay has generated in the email below?

Quote:
The change in the e-mail address is requested from:
IP address: 213.162.68.211
Host Computer Internet Service Provider: 213.162.68.211

thanks,
eBay

213.162.68.211 is a tmobile translation server in Austria. Are you using a tmobile dongle? I see you are in eu so do you connect thru Austria?

No I am using Cable modem from a different ISP. Not T-Mobile. I am not located in Austria, location is not correct.

213.162.68.211 is not in use by me. It's completely different then what is shown on every IP website like Ipchicken, IPBurger etc. Do not know why eBay generated this IP.

Ipchicken, IPBurger etc show my real external IP provided by my ISP.
The range of these IP's is also always in order and common for the IP's released by my ISP. Also the IP location is matched with my actual location

A few other IP's generated by eBay:

77.20.177.45
90.199.122.103
220.246.143.143
122.2.19.50
116.88.229.46

These can all replace X in the following email by eBay.

Quote:
The change in the e-mail address is requested from:
IP address: X
Host Computer Internet Service Provider: X

thanks,
eBay

If that's the case then my guess it is a bug in eBay system. Probably they are grabbing the address from another user and sticking it in your email. Most likely a cosmetic issue. Otherwise they would be linking total strangers from across the world by now.

Is it possible to check if you are getting a different IP by eBay as well?
You can just fill in an email address you want as your new one. You won't have to verify that email address.
Just to generate an email.

It could be that ebay.com is just working fine, cannot use ebay.com to generate the email, so I do not know.

First I thought my computer might be hacked, then I used a different computer on another location and other ISP and I was also getting these strange IP's generated by eBay.

So eBay.com is working fine. might just be ebay.nl.
I might just contact eBay about this.

Is there a way to check what IP Paypal is logging?

I asked someone here too.

Never got a reply though.

None of those IPs are ebay but rather from regular ISPs.

I get nothing like that on the sites I tried like zoneout did.

I checked my eB IP last night and everything is showing the proper location based on my IP provider for the account.

Could be that eb.nl is being routed then. No real insight otherwise.
