Internet tethering with iphone 3g - ip Question
 

Just wanted to know if my iPhone is connected to my WI-fi will I get a new IP address every time I use the internet tethering with my computer? or can I only do that by turning off WI-Fi and using my data that comes with my mobile plan?

Because It does go much faster this way and is a much more stable connection.

I did do a test and it seems that it is changing the ip even tho the iphone is connected to the router via Wi Fi.

can someone confirm this for me please?

I'm thinking I will buy a few cheap pc computers on ebay and have about 3 in the same room. I think it's more safer doing it this way and you don't have to worry about different users, computer name, cookies and so on..

Not going to work what were you using to check your ip? You need it on 3g and hit airplane mode to change ips. Open up safari and go to ipburger.com to confirm that your ip changes because it does not with wifi on good luck!

unless. you change the mac address of router?

but why would you need to tether if you are on wifi?

If your phone is tethered to your PC going out through your wifi the ip remains the same. To get a different ip you have too go 3G with wifi turned off.

Actually this can be changed in PC setting also. I leave my wifi on, however do not have it connect automatically.

Hi guys sorry to take so long to get back but I did some tests today and hear are the results

148.26.296.1 ROUTER TO MAC (MY COMPUTER)
42.769.6.226 ROUTER TO IPHONE TO MAC (WI-Fi)
42.769.2.25 ROUTER TO IPHONE TO MAC (WI-Fi) (second test)
42.769.4.188 IPHONE INTERNET WITH WI-Fi TURNED OFF

i'm so confused!
the 2nd and 3rd Ip should be the same as the first one but they are not.... as they are both on wi-fi mode and should be getting this Ip 148.26.296.1 ...

Any input would be great guys!

Mine defaults to data on phone when using hotspot that is integrated with iphone. Not sure if different if it is an app from app store.

Basically you are good to go....

I don't know if this helps but I use the basic router mac change. Each acct has it's number from the starting formation that I change to every time.

I get at least 5 to 8 different IP numbers per change for each acct for some reason, one per day. Comcast has changed....

Conclusion: as long as the number is different THAT day from the other acct's you peeked in THAT day, should be OK.
