I have had the Verizon Jetpack now for about 2 months. The Verizon sales associate told me it was Static. He was wrong. I tested the unit in-store before I purchased it. Every time you turn the unit off/on it produces a new IP address. The IP pool is HUGE! I keep track of my IP's on a spreadsheet and I have gotten maybe 2 or 3 duplicates out of over 200, so it is pretty awesome plus the 4g is fast!

This is correct. most verizon sales people are complete idiots. You have to go out of your way to make it static... nothing sold by verizon comes out of the box with a Static IP. If you're in 3g, the pool is huge. If you're in 4g, you need be careful because you could cycle through the same 2-3 ip's over and over the same session.

Beware.... pay close attention if you're in 4g.

Haha, yes, please do not expect their simpleton associates to have any knowledge on the networks technical backend operations.

It blows my mind that people believe whatever an associate tells them when purchasing anything cellular. Like, somehow, this lame a*s high school/college dropout is going to have a clue about anything other than pressing some buttons on a computer and charging your credit card. They are SALES ASSOCIATES, not highly trained and educated engineers.

no no no.... I'm saying it may NOT change even when you turn it on and off. The pool on 4g ip's is smaller than 3g. Much smaller....

Clarify between 4G and LTE. Verizon is LTE, where as Spring is WiMAXX aka their version of 4G at the moment. Sprint's WiMAXX has a huge IP range, but I don't have any experience with Verizon's LTE yet. I couldn't imagine it never changing on the JetPack when on LTE. Since my Sprint cards always work awesome, I just haven't felt like dropping the extra cash on the JetPack yet. Although, if you buy it prepaid at WalMart, you can just return it in 30 days and get cash back for what you paid on the device. Just not the data you bought of course.

4G is just the 4th generation of speed... LTE is a different technology than wimax, but in fact Sprint is using LTE also. They jumped the gone on advertising wimaxx... You may be in an area that has wimaxx, but it's not relevant really.

I'm talking about verizon, specifically while getting recpetion at 4g speeds, you are very likely to repeat the same ip many times in a session, unlike with 3g (1xrtt or evdo).

4G just means it's beyond EVDO, it's the next generation. Some sprint devices and configurations repeat ip's as well...

However, with ALL verizon 4g devices on 4g connections (not on 3g connections) you are likely to repeat ip's. In other words, lets say you disconnect and reconnect ten times.... under 3g speed, you're very, very, very unlikely to repeat an IP. But, with 4g, you'll probably have something like this

168.76.467.22
168.76.467.22
168.76.467.22
168.76.782.10
168.76.467.22
168.76.467.22
168.76.782.10
168.76.756.23

No, not what I meant. I know the difference in networks. Sorry for the confusion. I just asked to clarify which one you were referencing in your experiences.

Also, turning any MiFi device on and off instantly will certainly repeat IPs. You need to give it 5-10 minutes. Can do less, but I cannot comment on Verizon's devices. So, my point is, of course you would repeat IPs so quickly. That is normal and not a problem. Just need to increase your time intervals between power cycles.

Even with time, on 4g... it's very important to log the ip. I've gone a whole day without being able to reset the ip, unless I drove 2 miles up the road.

T-Mobile is notorious for that which sucks since they offer great plans. But, it was nice to see them finally admit they don't offer real 4G this past week, haha.
