Please help

Hi, I am so aggravated; I hope someone will help me.

I have been trying to change my IP address---unsuccessfully. I tried all the suggestions I was able to find in the forum, but to no avail.

I am using a Linksys router and a Comcast modem.

I know the settings on the router need to be changed, but I am afraid to do anything if I am not sure what I am doing.

Should I enable or disable mac cloning? It is currently set on disable.

I reset the router, unplugged both it and the cable modem too.

Thanks in advance.

You need to turn off the COMCAST MODEM and turn it back on - see if IP changes...wait 30 secs between.

Go into your routers basic settings and change the last set of 2 digits of your MAC address. Apply changes, then turn off both for 10 secs, then turn back on.

rsot and jjgold,

Thanks for the replies. I did turn off the cable modem. The problem is that I do need to change the MAC address but I am not sure which mac address should be changed-- There is a mac address for router, local network, and wireless. Which is the one that needs to be changed?

f you are familiar with this particular router, can you walk me through it?

Change the address for the router MAC.

Let's say for example your Router MAC address is: 00:45:B7:S9:E2:43

change the last 2 digits from 43 to 44, then apply/save changes. After this apply the change which might take a minute or so, turn off the router and the modem for 20 seconds, then restart. You should have a new IP.

Under setup for router, I have following options: Basic Setup, DDNS, MAC Cloning, and Advanced Routing.

Basic Setup offers nowhere to change mac address. Do I need to enable mac cloning? And if so, do I submit my only pc's name or everything in the home network.

I also do not want to screw up the PS3's settings....

Thanks again for your help and patience.

Score!! I hope...

I set MAC Address Cloning to Enabled and changed the last letter of MAC.

I was issued a completely different MAC address though. Letters are in some spots where digits were and vice versa. Is this OK or was this not the right thing to do? And should I enable or disable MAC cloning after new mac?

I was assigned, bottom line, a new IP....but please confirm this action was correct.

Thanks again
