Changing ip with cox.

I have cox as an internet provider. The method mentioned in the book don't work with cox. To get it too reset, I have have my modem off for 1-3 days. It releases my ip out then when I turn on the cable modem it captures a new ip.

I am considering buying a couple of cable modems to rotate, but before I do I wants to see if anyone was aware if there is software that could assist or if there is another option.

Suggestions appreciate..

There is no Software to help with changing IP's. I would suggest you get a Dongle for your IP needs.

I have cox and have no problem. Maybe a new router would work? I use a Netgear router and it has never failed in letting me change IPs

Bball,

What is your process for resetting your cox? Maybe I am doing something wrong?

My set up is my cable line comes into my cable modem, then to my wifi router then to my pc.

Tethering/Dongling is the safest/most convenient method in my opinion.

thanks all.

can anyone steer me in the right direction to discover what a dongle is. I did a search but only found other posts advising people to get a dongle. I have no idea what a dongle is or how it works.

Any help or direction is very much appreciated.

That is the best option with cox - to turn on and off the modem - few posts on dongles though...have you searched it yet?

Are you powering off the cable modem via the power button or actually removing the power cord.?

I tried Searching for dongles but still don't understand it. Will try again today.
