IP change for Time Warner: alternative suggestions

My internet provider is Time Warner and my internet box is Surfboard. Okay, this is exactly what I did. I went to my router, Its Motorola, my username is admin and password is motorola. At this point im suppose to find my Mac Address. Where do I find that at? Is it under "status, basic, advanced, firewall, parental control, or wireless options? I clicked on "Basic option" and it shows that I can change my LAN ip address but not MAC address. You can see it below. Am I on the right page????

Buddy you just put your ip address and router info on the internet. You should edit these numbers and don't give out that info

marshracing 11-08-2012 07:22 PM

I am also having the same problem, I have comcast with a surfboard router, at the bottom there is an option for a "spoofed" MAC address, when I change this, it changes my ip but then I lose my internet connection, not sure what the issue is.

NGALO1983 11-08-2012 08:04 PM

Same here

We are going through the same problem. When I use spoofed mac address then I lose internet. If you find a solution then let me know and I will do the same for you buddy.

MM78 11-08-2012 08:04 PM

Time Warner is super difficult to change IP, I have same ISP and it's not worth trying. I rely on my Phone to tether and a Dongle.

NGALO1983 11-08-2012 08:09 PM

Thx!

I knew something was up when I couldnt change my ip like everyone else. It looks like people with Time Warner are having the most difficult time changing ip so I will have to research when u suggested which is tethering and dongo and see what I come up with.

NGALO1983 11-08-2012 09:16 PM

Yeah

I guess im going with Dongle then. Do you know any stores that sell it? Can I buy it at wal-mart or Best-Buy, if so then how much?

MM78 11-08-2012 09:44 PM

Everyone has their favorite Dongle but you can buy them from any of the following Vendors:

T-Mobile: http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/phones/...ported Browser

Verizon: http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/s... Your Location

Sprint: http://=http://shop.sprint.com/myspr...nterruption...

Which is better? :noidea: hard to say, everyone has different opinions on each. Personally I am using T-Mobile Rocket 4G prepaid @ $25/Month for 1.5GB.

Simplest long term reply is to look for other means of accessing the internet.

Pay attention to MM78's advice.

Time-Warner is troublesome for stealth purposes.

Since we both have same internet provider then I will buy same one as you tomorrow from Wal-Mart. Thanks!

Good luck Ngalo - I had a problem with static IP for long time too so I understand your predicament.

Yuuuuup!!!

Thank you MM78 and everybody else.

Today I went to purchase a "T-Mobile Jet 2.0 4G" as MM78 and it works.

Everytime I pull it out it gives me a new ip address and I puchased a cheap prepaid phone for the phone portion of the account.

I am good and ready to create many accounts. I read the stealth book couple of times but this site helped me to fully understand it all.

MM78 11-10-2012 07:18 PM

Anytime, that's what we are here for...

Impact 11-10-2012 09:09 PM

I have a time warner cable and I use routers for each account. Works great, and its pretty cheap.

That works great if you have 10 or less stealth but if you have 20-30 I would not want to have that many routers/modems.

AmazonStealth 11-10-2012 11:42 PM

I know someone that called TW up, and asked them to manually reset it on their end. They called around 6pm and left it off until they got back from work the next day around 4pm (off for around 22 hours), and then plugged it back in and it was a fresh ip.

If you understand how IPs work then you know they constantly cycle, but if you are still plugged in than it will skip you. So the only way to get a new IP is if it off, as the process happens in like 1/100th of a second or so. And depending on your cycle it could happen once a day, week, month, etc. So its all about timing, and if you are always plugged in, then it wont happen.

I understand what you mean, but my routers are extremely small and very convenient. Therefore, even when I reach to 20-30 stealth accounts, I think I will still go with swapping routers since its cost efficient.

NGALO1983 11-11-2012 07:11 PM

Yeah!

You have to whats best for you. I agree it might be cheaper but its a little bit more work. With the T-Mobile Jet 2.0 all I do is pull it out the usb and put right back in then I got a new ip address. You can find cheaper ones on Ebay being sold for only 5 dollars. 25 dollars covers a month internet but you also get fast internet service and can take it on the road to the park etc

MM78 11-11-2012 08:41 PM

@Impact, Amen if it works for you, it's all about what works for each person. If the multiple modems works then keep chugging along! :thumb:

Be diligent in logging your IP's. My T-Mobile Jet 2.0 only has a pool of around 200 IP's and I was getting many duplicates.

Can't you solve this problem by assigning each stealth account its own dongle? That way you keep each stealth separate and do not accidentally get the same IP.

a311hanna 03-03-2013 10:29 PM

i read that a router wont change your ip address somewhere is this wrong? does swapping your router change your ip?

If I have TW as a wireless, but connect to foxfi thru phone, will this change ip?

I think you misunderstand how it works. Connecting to your wifi through your phone does nothing. You have to change your IP manually. I have Time Warner and even though it's Dynamic it is very difficult to change IP's but it may be different for you.

I have TWC and a wireless router and can not get a new IP address to save my life once I turned off the modem for around 29 hours and still the same could some one please explain the router thing and how you use it?

I'm so confused. What's a dongle? I also have TWC but I've been using a program that gives me a new ip... I'd rather be able to just change my ip with TWC.

I am assuming they are referring to a wireless dongle (to connect to wireless via usb).

Be careful with the programs, make sure it is not just a proxy switcher..

Re: IP change for Time Warner: alternative suggestions

Just to add my comments, I do not have an issue with changing IP's via TW. I goto my wireless routers portal and change the mac address under WAN settings, then yes "everything" connected to the router will stop receiving data, then I turn off modem and router, and turn on and it is changed.

I have also gone the jetpack route with many other accounts and that works beautifully too.

Re: IP change for Time Warner: alternative suggestions

I have TW and recently upgraded to faster speed but had to get their modem/router combo which is an Arris DG860.

I use to be able to go into my WAN setting and change MAC address, then reset with my Linksys to get fresh IP. But the Arris combo has all those settings greyed out?

Is it possible to ungrey the options? Could I also bridge my Linksys to Arris and then get new IP that way? If so how?

I see the bridge option under the Arris but it resets back to default after I hit apply. I think I recall reading you have to call TW and have them enable this?

Or should I just get dongle?

@jpinkman

I don't have time Warner but your situation sounded similar to mine. My ISP made me get their smc modem and didn't allow me to change IP whatsoever. Got another modem that my ISp approved and then problem was solved. If you can't change your Mac, getting another router should not be a problem

Re: IP change for Time Warner: alternative suggestions

@glacier922

I will goto TW tomorrow and switch out the combo router/modem for just the modem and use my linksys like I use to in the past.

They told me I had to get that specific router/modem combo last time in order to achieve the faster DL speeds.

Just looked on TW site and they now have stand alone modems that can achieve the 75/100mbs speeds. Buy Your Modem | Time Warner Cable

Hopefully I can just trade my combo out because I do want to have to buy one

Re: IP change for Time Warner: alternative suggestions

Time Warner is very difficult to change IP's....I'm with TW and I've only ever been able to change IP's like twice.

I eventually moved to a Dongle/Mifi, not as fast but super effective.

jpinkman69s 02-18-2014 11:35 AM

Re: IP change for Time Warner: alternative suggestions

Oh I did not know it was that hard. I use to just update the linksys mac and that would change the IP, well I thought it use to.

I used to post with multiple accounts on craigslist using this method and was under impression my ip was changing in order to post from multiple accounts but that was like 2 years ago.

May just go with the dongle/mifi since I could use with multiple accounts, was just worried about hogging the data with uploading pics for listings.

Any suggestions on best plan or price for the dongle for stealth in the US?

TW is very difficult changing IP's....even if turning off/on modems, etc. Calling in might work fine 1 time but calling in EVERY time you need a new IP will result in TW asking why you need to change IP every time.

You can try maybe changing the MAC address but there's no guarantee. I have TW and pretty much stopped trying to change IP so now I just use a Dongle.

I think your issue is that you have a static IP.

I did some research looks like you will need a business account setup so that you can obtain a dynamic IP connection.

which allows you to have a pool of IP's

I'm with Brighthouse and have the same Motorola Surfboard modem/router with the same issues. If ISP's like Time Warner, Brighthouse and Comcast all have a problem getting a new IP with a simple MAC address change then what is the best ISP for stealth purposes?? Please help, got everything else in place and can't get past this IP situation. Thanks
