Questions Relating to BT Broadband
 

Hi Guys, from reading around i see that this seems to be the best for stealth in the UK.

I've been using BT for a fair few years now but have only realised through this great site that it gives me a new IP Address every time i reset / turn off the router.

This is where my questions start.

1: The IP address which is assigned after you reset, will this always be different from the previous address? Or does it work on some kind of loop?

2: I noticed on here, i think it was one of tizwoz' posts that there is a way to give yourself a new band of IP Numbers, could anyone give any info to how to do this in the settings?

Basically i want to avoid any i.p clashes on three-five accounts.

Virtually everytime so far, tested it twenty times over the course of one-two days so far.

Only twice it came back with same IP, other 18 times was completely different on IP Burger.

Problem is that i need to know if it works in a loop system and how to exactly change the settings to get a new band of IP Numbers so i can avoid any hassles. :laugh:

I could really do with some help on this.

Today i have gone into the home hub 3's advanced settings to change my ip's range from the default. Have clicked apply and reset / turned off router.

Once that's done i checked ip burger, however the ip that is finding is the same 'old' range ip's. So i went back into the hub settings and checked that everything was changed to new range - which it was. I then checked my windows network connection and that seems to have the 'new' range. I use a netgear stick to connect to the hub in another room. When i check my netgear n600 smart wizard settings, that has the new range also...

I'm a little confused here, why would ip burger be wrong ? I've also tried What's My IP Address? Networking Tools & More and What Is My IP Address | Shows Your IP Address they still have the old range ! Is there a problem known on the home hub 3 for this?

I have gone into hub again and found that the TCP/IP settings 'Broadband network IP address' is the one i have been getting with ip burger. Do i have to change something else ?

Dynamic public IP address is assigned by the ISP not the router.

Simply restarting the modem will in most instances result in a new public/external IP address being assigned.

What you have done is to configure your internal network IP range which is not necessary, just restart your modem.

I've restarted the home hub, over and over again - the IP numbers that are coming out are still the ones from the 'old' range of IP numbers which i didn't want to use as some of them will be linked to old accounts that are dead.

That's why i changed the IP range from the default in the hub manager, but ip burger shows me that i'm still using that range. My network connection states that is is the new IP range so i don't really understand what is going on here. Not my strong point this!

Also, there are loads of folk using a BT broadband router. No one to my knowledge has been banned through linked IP as a result.

Stick to the "rules" of seperate user accounts and reset the router when switching user accounts and you should be fine. Continue to check IP burger when switching to make sure the IP changes.

The lack of IP range on these routers is not enough on its own to link you.

Mate don't bother with all that, got a dongle or a tethering phone plan, it's as simple as that

On the last post tizwos comments on his setup, he says that changing the IP range is possible - which would be ideal for me not having to buy a new router, dongle etc.

IP change is possible.

Just looked at this thread quickly.

It appears you are overthinking 'numbers' too much & giving yourself grief.

Say you run 4 accounts, so long as your IP is different & each account has its own user account(s), then that is acceptable.

ebay/paypal accept & expect ISPs to have a (limited) range of numbers.

Rarely does IP be the main issue.

Have I replied along the lines of your questions or have I missed your basic concerns?

I would make my accounts. Make my excel sheet. Log my info.
Before touching any account, I would run ipburger.com to check the IP.
Rinse & repeat.

I may be doubling up on info already known to you but aspkin created ipburger for our purposes. To date it certainly has never let me down.

Should your plan be bigger & having many multiple accounts, I would mix how I access t'internet. I too would use a dongle.

(eggs in one basket etc)

Problem is before i read the stealth guide i used to log in and out of accounts, so they must be quite a bit of linked IP's, hence why i wanted to try tizwos's method on the above link.

Maybe i'm just overthinking it!
