Is this possible or is it my eyes?

I have about 10 wireless routers I keep and then recycle on the bay once they have served their purpose.

Well recently I decided to check one of the old ipaddy with ipchicken, just to see if the numbers were the same.

They weren't the numbers I had recorded, these numbers were completely different.

I tried another router, one I haven't used since March. Again, whole different set of numbers.

I am now checking router #5 and again, all numbers are different.

Now, I am NOT computer savy, just a mom trying to make it. =O)
Can someone tell me what's going on.

I no longer have to buy routers or is it just my eyes? Thanks guys.:pop2:

Well.. when you swap out routers, the modem you're connected to will see it's connected to a new device (each router has a different MAC address) so it will grab a new IP address and assign it to your (your MAC address) for a short period of time.

Now when you swap out to a different router, your modem will see it's connected to a different device (and MAC address) and it will go out and grab a new IP address again.

You can keep doing this as long as you have a dynamic IP address.

You can do this or you can go to your router admin and change you MAC address, reboot the router, reboot the modem and your modem will again grab a new IP address for you.

Fun stuff.
