Default IP address---how do you know?

I purchased the Stealth Book and I'd like to know a bit more about IP addresses. I want to get on ebay, but I'm not a heavy seller and can't afford to pay for dial up every month.

Right now I use a cable modem. I recently set my computer back to factory settings (haven't gone on paypal or ebay since). I plan to contact my internet provider company to have the IP number reset.

My question is what is the difference between having the IP reset with my cable company and getting dial up

I understand how to find the IP address on my computer and I have that number written down. But when it's reset do I need to make sure all the numbers are different? How do I know that on future logins the old IP number won't show up? Is there a possibility of that after resetting a cable modem?

I understand it's probably safer to do dial up, but right now I just can't afford the extra cost for the little amount of selling I do.

Thank you

With cable most of the time you are given a dynamic IP address, that is, when your modem asks the ISP for a IP it will give out whichever one is open at the time. If you pay extra you can get a Static IP, which will not change. A common way to change ip, is to unplug the cable modem for about 30 secs and than reboot it. You should have a different IP. If not you can call up the cable co, and ask for a Static IP, and than have it changed, by callin in to the cable co., every time you want a new IP.

I hope that helps.

Ok, that is my concern, if my cable company will just give me any IP that's "open at the time," how do I know that at some point I won't get the IP I was banned with?
My account was banned in 2006. I thought it was just for 7 days, so I started using another account (just to buy). I have been using it for about a year and a half with no problems at all. But, the minute I put up something to sell, I was banned again (because they linked it to my old ID). I am sure they linked the account with something other than the IP since I was able to use it for so long.

That being said, my last ban was a month ago and I do not know what my IP address was at the time.

I have a website where I use one of those tracker stats sites like this:
Web site traffic analysis and statistics
I've used it for awhile and it's weird because when I visit my own site and then look at the tracker. It has pinpointed my IP to more than one city. Sometimes it's one of the surrounding cities where I live and other times it's a completely different surrounding city.

I have a switch panel on the wall of my office room. It is supposed to turn on/off the light, you know what I am talking about .

Now, I am planning to connect my DSL modem to the Eclectic power of this switch panel, whenever I turn off the light, the DSL modem will be powered off and vice versa. When ever I enter my office room, I switch on the panel and turn on the light, then DSL modem is turned on with a new IP address.

Oh ok, I guess it's easy to get a new IP address.. But zhouxi, you mention turing the modem off and on and I think that would result in getting a different IP address each time you go on the computer. Do you worry about maybe getting the old IP address back, the one you were banned with?

I am newbie, not sure about if the old IP will be getting back again. But I know the bottom-line is not to login the suspended account and newly opened account without changing IP address.

Once you change your IP address, you do not need to change it over and over again unless you're creating multiple eBay accounts. EBay and Paypal like when you connect with the same IP address. They don't like when your IP address changes all the time, they may limit accounts in which the IP address changes often.

Also once your cable ip address is changed; it won't change on its own unless you reset your modem. Just keep an eye on your IP address, write it down and you should be okay.

Also only the last string of numbers will usually change, not the entire ip address.

Example: 74.157.165.42

Will change to: 74.157.165.52

And that's perfect.

I called my internet provider today about my connection being slow and casually asked about the IP address.
I was told it changes every few days. Something about it being a "dynamic" IP.

I tried unplugging the modem and plugging it back in, but it still gave me the same IP number. (I actually unplugged everything connected to it for a few minutes.)

I know I can call back and have them reset it, but I am kind of worried now that they told me it changes every few days.

Is this something I should be worried about?

Im in the same situation as you. My internet provider claims that my IP changes every 2-3 days but nothing ever changes on IPBurger or when I look it up under Ipconfig.

Default IP address

I have a question I was a Ebay power seller for 4 years and just got suspended indefinitely and i have no idea why and they gave me a courtesy call to tell me they were going to do that with no explanation except they were looking at the big picture what ever that means. Anyway my questions is I know they track the IP address but can they also track the computer ID or IP to know what computer you are using ? I had cox INTERNET and tried to change the IP but it always stays the same so I ordered quest that is dial up. I am going to make a new account with all different information but I just want to be sure they can't track the same computer I have formated the one I am using which is also the one i was baned from ebay on so i was not sure if i should go buy ASUS Eee 900 computer and just use it for ebay only ? I was thinking about making the account and doing my listings at Star Bucks lol I am so paranoid now i feel like I will watched all the time I know thats dumb but yes I am a blond very Just don't want to mess this up and get kicked off again.

Bambi as i see it ; you must run firefox and set it to clear all data. if you havent already got it. download it , it takes but a minute. make sure you get cc cleaner. "free" and clea out all data cookies... get the add on from firefox that puts your present ip on your status bar on the right hand bottom of screen. write it down. then unplug your router and shut down and wait 5 or ten mins. then boot up again the router and pc. check again your ip . see if its significantly changed. then your clear that hurdle.

That phone call is so similar to mine.. no specific reason for banning. but saying " please do not attempt to use ebay in anyway" quite a cold call after 6 years on ebay.. sure there robots and have no humanity at all.
