Could someone please walk me through changing my Ip?
 

Could someone please walk me through changing my IP? I'm really lost on what to do.

I have road runner and use a Compaq Presario lap top that I think is using Windows Vista Basic according to a sticker on it.

The other computer is my husband's and is a regular desk computer. I don't use it so I don't really know what system it uses.

The modem says Scientific Atlanta and is running on batteries. The router says D link.

If I remember road runner in most states does not allow you to change ip addresses.

I might be wrong because I used to have them years ago and dont anymore and they did not allow any ip changes.


There is a great thread on this, read through the section and look for ip change, routers, etc.

Not at service provider let you change ip.

if you want an easy way to change ips then look into phone tethering

Also, many are using dongle and other sources.

OP needs to find out if her provide has a static or dynamic first.

dongles are the best way around ip address issue imo

subscribe to the forum and get yourself a copy of the stealth guide, familiarize yourself with the ip issue and other stealth methods

First step is go to ipburger.com and check your IP.

Now turn OFF the Scientific Atlanta modem and wait a bit. Turning it back on and wait for Net connection to rejoin.

Go back to ipburger.com - is the IP different? Yes - you have dynamic but no - you have static.

Hi, thank you. I turned it off for about 2 hours but it didn't change.

You have to change the address on your router,prior to resetting your modem and router.

There is a section in the stealth guide that explains it.

Thank you. I tried it on my laptop but I guess it has to be done from the main computer (?).

Went to the main computer but apparently I need a user id, password and disk that came with it. Fixing to turn the house upside down hunting for these.

you dont need them just google log in instructions for your modem type

Okay, so log in instructions for the modem will get me access to change the ip on the router?

Be changing settings in router, as long as you have a dynamic IP, the address will change after reset.
