Advice on IP addresses and Wireless Dongles Required

Im currently using Virgin UK which I believe has a static IP that doesnt change... Ive tried unplugging the router for a bit, so can confirm it keeps the same IP.

So im going to keep that for the home network and the other halfs ebay account... Cant lose that, she'll kill me :pry:

So my options are

1: Online IP hiding software, which sounds like hard risky work.

2: Dial up connection, in the world of wireless I dont want to do this as id have to rip up the carpets to lay cables to the hallway phone line box.

3: Wireless broadband dongle on pay as you go... Sounds great, IP address changes every time, its faster than dial up and its cheap!

So as you can see my best option sounds like a wireless dongle... So does the IP address really change every time, or will I have to keep a daily log forever to double check it does re-issue an old IP. Also is eBay ok with a different address when logging in, or will they flag me and ask me to call? Also is one dongle suitable for multiple accounts, im guessing it is but I just want to make sure from others who have tried and tested the method.

Thanks :yar:

3. is the best option. IP does change but lot of people advocate keeping a log to avoid potential use of an old IP.

eB wont flag you and ask you to call if you keep the cookies in place per account (1 eb per windows user account).

Few people around here do well with only 1 dongle - unless you want multiple accounts going on at once on different computers...

I dont plan to have any than five going at the start... Providing I can get five bank accounts.

So one dongle it is

In that case, start training yourself to log details.

There are also methods to make accounts.

Good idea you are planing ahead

ok so looking at wireless dongles... But whats the best option to go for?

Im a bit uncertain about which option I should go for, how much monthly allowence does ebay need? I dont want to get 1gb allowence and then be slammed with a huge bill somewhere down the line so was thinking 15gb but this is twice the price and I dont want to pay for an allowence which im not going to use.

An example on the 3 website for a 5gb rolling contract is this

5GB a month will give you:
Send 5,000 Outlook/HTML Emails
Surf the Web for 50 hours
Download 25 four minute videos
Download 160 four minute music tracks
*Approximate calculation

Now it doesnt say if it will give me all of that, or either one of them. I guess they like to make things uncertain so that they can slam you with a big bill should you go over the limit :mad2:

But if I do get all of that, then the 50 hours web surfing should in reality be a lot more as I wont be downloading music tracks or videos.

Ill just be using the dongle for ebay... For say 3 hours per day. This will involve browsing, auctiva, sending messages, uploading images and maybe saving some stock images from the net to use for items.

What do other people use?

I was thinking of going with 3 as they seem the best option

Any advice would be much appreciated

Go with three.

Don't buy directly from them. Go to amazon and get a dongle with 3gb data. Cheaper and last longer (3 months).

Looks like a very good deal with Three. I use T-Mobile myself, 30 days rolling contract for £15 a month but I do some close to the 1 GB limit sometimes.

If you dont download tracks, livestream, or upload a ton you should be fine.

Thanks Chrisfo... Just puchased a 3gb 3 dongle from Amazon, good price and no need for another bill to be coming out of my bank each month!

So I got a little question for this post... ARE YOU SURE we can use the same dongle for multible accounts as long as we keep a log and have cookies in line?

As long as you unplug the dongle every time you log on an account and plug back in when you log into another account..

The dongle doesn't need to be unplugged, it only needs to be disconnected from the internet.

Very true but probably easier to just unplug.

How could it be easier??

There is no need to remove the dongle from the USB port. Simply disconnecting and then re-connecting from the internet changes the IP.

Hey mate, I'm pretty new when it comes to wireless dongle...I know it is some sort of wifi receiver (correct me if I'm wrong) Does a wireless dongle have it's own ip number? or will it still be the same as the router? Any help will be appreciated
