Default Question about Wifi and IP addresses

Hi i tried changing my laptops Mac Address, which changes the ip address. My wireless router is connected to my main computer. Is it virtually impossible to obtain a IP on my laptop which is different to my computers IP even though they are both connected to the same wireless router?

I tried changing the Mac address on my laptop, but the IP address remains the same as my PC's ip address. Does anyone know if its possible to change it?

Regards,
SUperpak

would have thought that as your using the same router through two connections then your IP will remain the same for both connections. until you turn off your router for 20 mins and turn it on again ( not guaranteed) it changes my IP every time i do that. i think what you mean is . you want your laptop to have a different IP to your other pc connection. i am not sure if thats possible. because your connected to one ISP via your router url . maybe someone knows better ???

It does not matter what PC you use to change the mac address on your router. Jut login to your router and change the mac address. As soon as your router information is saved, go unplug both cable modem and router for about 30 seconds and plug them back in. You should now have a new ip address for your router and that is what you need. That is what I did and it worked great! I have a netgear router.

oh ok. It must be different in the U.S. because I have to change the mad address not just unplug the router.

everyone is very helpful, in my last post it was supposed be be *mac address* not *mad address*...changing the mac address is just as fast as unplugging the router though.

The reason why is if i went to a McDonalds store with free wireless, i could just set up all my accounts there and change my MAC address to get a new ip. So i guess you cant. So everyone using that MacDonalds wireless has the same IP address, correct?
