MAC address change. Help.

I can change both mac address (through router only) and IP address (tcp/ip settings). The question is how to associate one with the other? Anyone know how to do it or does it need any software? and of course, if you know how to change mac ads when computer connects to modem directly, please also share here. Please help here. Thank you.

Are you using a router?

Yes, I am using a router. I can only change MAC address when the router is connected and I can change IP without router connects to the computer. Any thoughts?

I suggest changing the mac address on the router while it is connected. Let the router save the information and it will disconnect you. As soon as you get disconnected just go shut off the router and cable modem. Then turn the router on and cable modem and you should have a new ip address. The ip address will be close to the one you had before probably.

I bearly switched to embarq, my ip.. I cant seem to change it with my linksys router with the mac address clone. I know how to I did it with my comcast internet so I can control my ip. But it remains the same ip still after I change the last 2 boxes of my mac. Any help is appreciated!!

I would say your ip with embarq is based on the MAC ID of the modem instead of the NIC (or router). Buy a modem at Best Buy (you can return it within 30 days), call Embarq and give them the new MAC, see if you get a new IP. You may have to call each time you want to change your ip. Pain in the ass but it may work :)

BTW, good to see you again buddy

On your linksys are you going to this address to change or mac address http://192.168.1.1/ ? I have a linksys and I change my IP address all the time.

Hey u too! It seems that wont work either. I called them up made some bs. Basicly anything I changed on my site changes back to that same ip cause of some porting or sum crap. I read that I could control the mac and what not with them. Now im stuck with embarq >.> I suppose I can always connect comcast back again. I did get the dial up which im going to use. PPL!!! Dont ever get the embarq service, they are stupid ppl and there service sux. I know !!!!

It may be a stupid question but...........

Have you tried resetting the modem ?
The internet IP is from the modem NOT the router (unless they are combined).

A router IP is 192.168.1.1 (all IP's from that router change the last number so .2 .3 .4 and so on)

The modem gives an IP that offers out the Internet provider, location etc etc.

I am from the UK and thats how it works there, if its not the same in the US then please accept my apologies in advance. I say this because I am sure that the internet works the same worldwide, hence the name, WorldWideWeb :)

The M.A.C address is hardware specific so, if, for example, you connect to the internet through WIFI built into your laptop your M.A.C address will be that of your built in wifi unit, next time you connect through your LAN (wired) connection your M.A.C address will be that of your LAN card so as its different hardware the M.A.C address will be different.

I hope this helps someone ;)
