Ip won't change for any of my accounts

Hello! Need a little help from you guys who are much smarter at this than me. Anyways I can't get my ip addresses to change on any of my accounts that I have been running for the past 8 months. I've tried changing the MAC address at least 10 times and everytime it keeps coming up the same ip number. It just started doing this because like I said I've been doing this for 8 months now and every other time I changed my Mac I could get a new ip. Any help would be more than appreciated. Or any advice you guys could give on how to get the ip to change would be wonderful.

Ps not sure if this info will help but I use Comcast cable Internet here in the states. And I unplug the modem when changing my Mac. Then I log into another user account after I unplug my router.

Comcast, Charter are very difficult when it comes to IP changes. Usually changing the MAC will do it but I don't think it works 100% of the time.

I would suggest you look into a Dongle (USB Modem), Verizon, Virgin Mobile are 2 that I use myself.

Comcast still works for me although it takes 10 minutes to reboot and give me a fresh IP. It used to reboot in 1 - 2 minutes but over the last 5 months it's been much slower. Comcast says that I'm due for a new modem but I'm scared to change it and end up like the OP.

I have both Virgin and T-Mobile but the only time they are reliable is before 7:00am. I guess the 3G network starts too get busy and my signal is crap (although I'm less than a mile from the interstate).

Dongle is good as MM78 suggested - also try cellphone tethering.

Comcast is cable and there is always tendency for mac address binding. In most cases, when your power goes off for a minute, it is very likely that you will get a new IP address. Try this after taking note of the current IP address:
1. Assuming your modem and router are all connected to the same power extension, unplug the extension for two minutes. If the IP address does not change, then go to step 2.
2. Change the mac address of the router. Do the following religiously
- Power off both modem and router.
- Power on the router, wait until all lights are solid
- Power on the modem
You should be able to get a new IP address.

If either do not work, call Comcast and just request them to clear the mac address. If you find somebody who does not know what they are doing, tell them, you bought a new router and it is not getting any connection from the modem.

For the benefit of anybody using a DHCP connection, calling your company to clear the mac address will do the trick. PPPoE connections are the best for changing IP addresses.

Keep up posted if this works.

I have comcast and got new modem 2 months ago and everything has been working fine for me I just change MAC address than push the reset on the modem and just power on and off the router and in a minute all new IP

Thanks for all the advice everybody i really appreciate it. I tried a few of them and what ended up working for me to get it to change was. I would do my same exact process and then whenever i would log into my new user account i would then unplug the router and reset the modem. Hopefully thats an okay way of doing it because it did give me a new IP address finally. Thanks again

what are the steps to change your MAC on comcast? thanks.

JamesNorth101 07-01-2013 02:36 PM

Which comcast router do you have? Do you have a modem/router or a modem and a router?

stealthychew 07-01-2013 02:38 PM

SMCD3GNV. modem/router combined. thanks.

johnnyreed22 07-02-2013 06:41 AM

Well i thought that process had worked for me but I'm not sure if it did. It seems like it just changes the IP temporarily. When i go on Ip burger it says my IP changed then if i click on another site then go back to Ip burger it goes back to the same IP as before.

Any clue as to why it just started doing this out of the blue? Was working fine for 8 months then all of a sudden it just wont change. The power had went out here last week would that have something to do with it? I tried 2 different routers and the IP still the same on both.

So it has to be something with the modem correct? Sorry for all the newb questions but any insight from you guys would be appreciated. Looks like I'm going to have to go purchase a usb router or one of the other methods you guys had mentioned.

Power outages can damage modems. Happens very often.

tbf for flexibilty and ease of use, I would suggest you follow the advice by MM78 in Post 2. His suggestions give you ease of use when operating stealth. That is a big plus.

Before you make the change please make sure your reception etc is OK for your area.
More than one good option around for you too.

Good Luck

Invest in a good usb internet stick (dongle) or use your cellphone as tether as well

Furious George 07-02-2013 10:16 AM

I would recommend getting an additional internet connection if you can't change your IP. This could be dial up, cellular card, a different provider, smartphone tether, or something else.

johnnyreed22 07-02-2013 12:59 PM

Ok any recommendations on a good usb internet stick/ dongle that i should get then. It seems like thats the one that you guys recommend the most and would be alot less hassle

JJGold 07-02-2013 01:33 PM

I use the Virgin U600 for the stick and $35/month for 2gb worth of data. You can toggle between 3g and 4g (if available). I also have T-Mobile ZTE $25/month no contract although it's been 6 or so months since I used it as I was getting too many repeat IP's.
