IP's

Right...I have had a few stealth accounts come and go now. But now seem to have them quite tight..ish!! I have had several dongles over this period. What i am wondering now is can eb & pp link you by the patterns of IP's?? ie for 6 months i could use a phone hotspot with the ip 12.13.244.1 with the majority of them very very similar....then for another 6 months use a new voda dongle with 92.940.456.89 with them being very similar in pattern. Can they link you by pattern of IP's?? Hope this is understandable

Wont really link you on a pattern of IP since it takes just a number or 2 to different in order to be considered a new IP. With a dongle, you should be good to go - keep a track of the IPs on the accounts.

e.g. 12.13.244.1 versus 12.13.234.1 are considered suitably different.

If they are watching your account closely enough, yes.

It depends on your own activity and how many accounts you run with similar IPs

I seriously doubt they would go red flagging entire blocks of IP's. The simple fact is, ip's are recycled. There are just only so many numbers.

Now, you also have to realize that if someone accesses two accounts from an identical IP in a 3 month period, the odds of that happening by chance are astronomical.

Then again, your ip only has to be as little as one digit off for ebay and paypal not to blink.

I have several blogs I operate for internet marketing, and I can see when a guy tries to hack into my site. I'll see the failed login attempts, and where the security system black listed that IP, and then where he changed the ip slightly. In that situation I just ban the entire IP range.

That's a different scenario, but think if ebay started banning entire IP ranges of cellular customers who use those same dongles. I bet a lot of people would be pissed off. It's not unusual for wireless cards to draw from a pool of ip's regularly.

I hope that helps. :)

good i have 3 but use them for the same accounts

levi6482 07-29-2013 09:24 AM

also do you have ip spreadsheets for each acount or grop of accounts under that connection

JamesNorth101 07-29-2013 09:32 AM

I use Virgin Broadband for a block of about 15 accounts. Rarely get the same IP twice. If you do, simply change it.

Make sure you keep track of all IP's

Wow 15 accounts...ok that puts it a little more into prespective. I use the spreadsheet you provided jamesnorth101...took me a while copying the hand written ones across, but is now complete. Very helpful it excites me lol. Do you keep the spreadsheet on each user account ??

That is just via one internet IP pool range. Another 30 that I get onto via via dongles, tethering ect, even though they are used much less frequently. Wait unit Sandy D chimes in if she does, she has 100's of accounts.

I have several hard drives that I can pop into and out of the laptop or desktop. All the information that I need for across accounts like Profits, Stock Control, IP tracking ect I keep on a USB stick that I can pop in and out and transfer from laptop to laptop with ease. I keep a Excel file with all the individual account informations on this USB stick as well

I name my user accounts A1, A2, A3 .... A9 ect then B1, B2, B3.....

The password for each account is the password I use on eBay so I know I am logging into the right account.

I also keep a back up of all this date on an external hard drive as well as hard copies of them all, and a copy emailed to my personal email account.

eB and PP can do this if a lot of overt fraud happens with IP ranges - similar principle but very rare as you have identified
