VPS for dummies

Hi, so I am looking into getting aVPS rather thanthe overused VPN on whi I haven't had any luck.
And as I am reading about VPSs I understand that I don't understand anything! OMG I feel totally stupid. Can anyone please walk me through getting and setting up a VPS......
