Thats what I was thinking I'd have to do. I wonder if I should buy my own router or use another one from comcast cause they can give me a separate modem and router.

I tried both options http://192.168.0.1/ and 192.168.1.1 and neither worked as you may have already guessed.

Guess I will just get my own router...I think this gives me more control. Did you say you prefer netgear over linksys?

Are there anyway to save threads that we want to visit back again?

I had the Linkysys WRTG model for years until it became obsolete. I read up on the NetGear dual band N600 model and it does everything I need it to do for the price (around $60).

Belkin as a company? I guess. You're not being specific on model; so there is not a clear answer to your question. Every manufacturer makes a base, intermediate, and high level version of their routers. Each will have their own separate pros and cons on their routers.

Choosing a router for your home use is based on...

1. What are your needs? Are you going to connect multiple wifi devices (such as 10 or so)? 10 devices might seem like a lot like you, but in my home...I have a PS3, XBOX, Roku, my wife's cell, my cell, wife's laptop, Apple TV, an iPod. All of these devices need wifi at some point. This doesn't include the desktop PC that has a wired connection to the router. This is typical of most households nowadays.

2. What is your budget? The old saying, you get what you pay for applies. If you want to spend $30, you will get a decent router that may not work well 6 months from now. Plan on spending around $50 for reasonable router.

For the most bang for the buck, I choose the Netgear N600 which handles all my wifi devices and was cost effective at ~$65 at the time of purchase. (Maybe it is cheaper now).

I suggest reading reviews on routers on CNET or PCMag to make an informed decision. You can also see a comparison of specs here of the top 10 home routers (notice Belkin had the lowest rating). Best of luck in your decision,

Ok. now I need some help. I got belkin N600 since they didn't have netgear. I have followed the steps, I have accessed the router page, access wan mac address, and changed a number and save, it automatically resets....BUT does not go back online. I put it back the way it was, and it reset and went back online. I tried again changing a different part of the number, and it rest and did not go back online. I put it back again and it reset and went back online.

This tells me that it's not letting me change the wan mac address for some reason. Has anyone had any experience? I also bought a netgear 300 to try....though we have 9 wifi items and this belkin allows for wifi printing and we have a larger size home so we need a good router...

I'd like to see if I can make this Belkin work for those reasons. Does anyone know anything about this issue?

That's right, it's not supposed to go online. All you did (according to what is written here) is reset the router. You need to reset your modem after changing the router's MAC address.

Basically, all you're doing is spoofing the router's MAC so the modem thinks its a new device. When you go back to the old MAC of the router...the modem says OK I know this device and assigns the old value of the IP that's tied to it. So you are back online w/ the old IP.

Try it again, but this time reboot the modem after you make changes to your Belkin router's MAC address.

Try this page on Belkin's website below. In step 7, you don't have to necessarily choose Clone your Computers MAC, but just change it to one digit different in the last box.

Then reboot both your Belkin router and cable modem (it says to restart your computer too, but you may not need to necessarily do this). You should then check IPBurger.com to make sure you have a new IP.
