I was on Virgin as well before I switched to Verizon. I loved the IP ranges but the speeds at home just killed me.

I use te wifi part of my phone to tether, I simply put a password protection on my phone and I'm done. With the program called, "Wifi tether", you can even have access control to the computer(s) that are connected to it, even with password.

Say you are mad at your sister, her laptop has the password to the wifi tether program. Only thing you need to do is go into access control and kick her butt off without changing the password. hehehe, it makes her think that her laptop is broken. I love doing that, hahahaha

I only get a decent connection from my Virgin U600 before 7:00am, I guess the network gets overloaded after that. I have T-Mobile but the IP range is very narrow with way too many duplicate IP's.

My next dongle will be a Verizon. Should I get one that can access 3g as well as the 4g?

Of course, Bell, Rogers/Fido and Telus are pushing HARD to block.
