IP Burger shows IP address changed, but it didn't

Hello,

I went through the steps described in the EBay Stealth Guide and managed to change my IP address. However; according to IP burger. If I go to IPburger.com, my new IP address show up.

But a pop-up message just showed up on my Macbook.

It said something like;

''A device on the same network uses your computer's IP address''

And the computer IP address shown was my old IP address.

I changed my IP address on my desktop computer (windows).

Is my IP changed or not? IP burger shows it did change, but that pop-up message confused me.

Yes, your IP address has changed. Whatever IPburger is showing you is the correct. This is the IP address your ISP has assigned to your modem and it is the IP facing the rest of the world.

Within your home network is your LAN. Every device within your LAN gets assigned an IP address in the 192.168.1.xxx range.

For example...

computer has 192.168.1.2
cell phone has 192.168.1.3
ps3 has 192.168.1.3

These are assigned DHCP via your wifi router. If you open a web browser on each of those devices and go to IPburger, each device on your LAN will have the same external facing IP address.

Going back to my example above, each of your devices are assigned IP address via DHCP protocol on your router.

I think you might have had your computer in sleep mode, and while you rebooted the router it assigned another device on your network w/ your computer's IP (because it was in sleep mode, your router doesn't detect it as active).

Short version to fix it...reboot router again and problem will clear itself when your wifi router reassigns IP addresses for your devices.

By the way, if I didn't make it clear enough, this error is harmless. You don't need to worry about it and it will clear itself during next time you reboot your wifi router.

You DO have a new IP address.

Just to throw out there.

Say you are on your wifi at home and at the same time you are tethering your phone on the same computer.

You run IP burger and you find that your wifi IP is shown. Even though you have two sources to the web, the wifi will default to the computer. Make sure you deactivate the wifi piece on your computer in order to tether.
