- IP Address

| alextrainer | 07-02-2007 07:31 PM | IP address - safe alternative? public WIFI issues? Public Library? Public IPs ? so my cable modem doesnt change ip addresses - it has been the same for the past 6 months - cable company says they change when they want to
so i have been traveling to nearby mall to login with no problem
is there any way to purchase software to change ip address (especially to a certain state and so it uses the same ip address)?
also how does ebay distinguish between a user logging in using the same IP at a WIFI non secured IP or a public network of pcs like at a library...if i login and someone using the same IP WIFI or library PC next to me logs into a suspended account - will i get suspended also? how safe are unsecured WIFIs (malls, starbucks) and open PC places (libraries, malls, etc.)? |
| FA_1982 | 07-03-2007 02:57 AM | I recently signed on to AT&T Yahoo DSL service. Based from my observation in the last 2 days, I get a new IP address by turning off the device when I am not using it. I usually check online through whatsmyip.org and it always different by turning it off for about 10 hours. Just my 2 cents. |
| likethemapples | 07-04-2007 12:18 AM | Aol Warning!!!! I read somewhere that AOL would help in this case somehow, I'm sure they were talking specifically about dialup. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BELIEVE THAT AOL MASKS YOUR IP WITH E-BAY WHILE USING CABLE MODEMS, IF YOU GO TO A IP CHECKING WEBSITE, YOU WILL GET A DIFFERENT IP THAN YOUR REAL IP WHEN USING AOL (duly noted) BUT EBAY SOMEHOW KNOWS YOUR REAL IP. I CANT BELIEVE MY EYES, BUT TRUST ME ON THIS. :( |

Isn't AOL using other companies' services to sale internet access? AOL Time Warner Cable? I used to work at Earthlink, and all they do is resale other people's services, using TWC, AT&T, Comcast, etc.. |
| myshtern | 01-29-2008 09:50 PM | Suspension Public Computer What happens if someone is linked to a suspended account because they both used a public computer?
Has anyone heard of that? For example, I know of a couple of places that have 100+ computers on the network and 20-30 public computers. If I logged in there with a suspended ID, would everyone else who uses those get suspended too? |
| DogFacedBoy | 01-29-2008 09:56 PM | Might happen but I suppose that it would depend on the specifics. This is one reason that when I do anything at my office I do it through an AOL proxy account |
| ebayhateluv | 01-29-2008 09:58 PM | HI- IN my case- the LInk, is from BOTH the ip sharing AND cookie Sharing..not just 1. |
| DogFacedBoy | 01-29-2008 10:00 PM | I always clear cookies when accessing at the office even with AOL |
| yougotit | 08-26-2008 11:29 AM | Public library's IP causes suspension hi, i used the public library's ip on a suspended account, and i have no idea how to change the ip except to use a proxy. i know ebay doesnt like proxies, but what if the ip of the proxy is in the same state as my physical address? is that still not ok? |
| aspkin | 08-26-2008 01:18 PM | It's best to find a new place to connect to eBay. Most proxies do not work. |

Wifi and a laptop is all u need :D u wont belive how many unscurued netwroks there is in towns |
| anonymous | 08-31-2008 05:56 PM | I hope you like Starbucks ALOT lol |
| orangecrayon312 | 05-09-2011 03:17 PM | So, a public wifi hot spot can only be used until an account is burned? Then, you must find a new location through which to connect? I've been switching locations each time, but had hoped I could stop doing that and could just use the same old Starbucks location.
Thanks for the help! |
