Changing of ip address

Does anyone know a way of changing IP address without walking upstairs and back down every time I need to get a NEW IP?

It's becoming rather long winded and as I am on BT internet wondered whether I can change by disabling LAN connector or through BT Hub Settings?

Thanks

Dongle? Or you could run a power cable from downstairs upstairs, under the carpet with a switch next to your desk and just flick switch on and off from your desk?

Going from 40/meg to dongle speeds isn't the best option and wires from where I am based in the house I would need a mile long cable. Can you not disable through settings?

Yes it is possible. If you have a wireless router you enter in the router setup (generally connecting to 192.168.0.1 or something like that) and you should be able to connect and disconnect the ADSL from there. I have a SITECOM wireless router and when I do that I get a new IP according to ipburger... it is also a very fast way of geting new ip.

moreover... you should also have something like a "reset tool" in order to reset the router. This is meant to be done for sw changes to to be effective on the router itself.
Actually it is a proper reset. Like the on of button was pressed

If your issue is just turning the power off at the wall then buy a remote wall plug adapter.

Press a button and it cuts the power to what ever is attached to it, press the button again and it turns the power back on at that plug. Very useful things.

Must say I've never heard of this but will look to see if I can get one.

So, you turn you router off and back on to get a new IP?

Re: Changing of ip address

Depends on your router, and and lease time your ISP has on the IP address, but in some cases yes.

Other times you just have to change MAC address, switch off and switch on for a new IP.

IP address can repeat though, so you have to make sure you track them.
