IP address confusion
 

I recently changed the email address that is linked to my eBay account. In the confirmation email from eBay it says the request was made from ip address 82.xxx.xx.xxx which according to whatismyipaddress is from the Netherlands
ipburger gives my ip address 101.xxx.xxx.xxx which said I am in Australia which is true.
Would anyone know why this is so?

I was in the same situation a few months ago. I do not remember if I changed email or something else but got an email from them like the one you got.

The ip requesting the change (mine?) was from England when I am actually based in northern Italy...

Nothing appened after that... no issues.

What is the domain of your email provider? If is not public, do not publish it here, but if it is like gmail.com, that is common.

If a packet doesn't contain identifying information then all the receiving server can do is see the IP of the last node the transmission went through and that's where it's located to.

There can be lots of reasons it doesn't, such as your ISP (or anyone along the way) stripping it for security reasons or simple data loss during transmission.

its an outlook email address. I guess if its an ip address I can not check I can not log either. Interesting. Thanks everyone for your opinions
