Modem Router Combo
 

Hi I just got to the part of the guide about changing the ip address. I have been trying to change my win mac address, but it doesn't seem to be possible. I have an Arris DG860 combo router that was installed by Time Warner Cable. Is there anyway for me to change my ip address other than buying a new router or am I just out of luck? Also if I should buy a new router do any of you have any recommendations?

I am unsure how the Time Warner combo works. I have Time Warner, but I have a cable modem and I have a wireless router. I use netgear routers, (WallsMart $29.99). I this works for you, don't forget to make note of your IP's.

Is there anything extra I will have to do since I will be switching from a combo router to just a netgear router? I will need to get a modem in this case too correct?

So when I buy the modem I would also have to buy a router if I wanted other people in my house to be able to hook up to the internet wireless correct?

Yes if you want to continue to have wireless in your house you will need the router too.

If you buy a modem/wifi combo and have access to changing mac address, you are all set. Remember to reboot when you change the mac address.

I see some netgears in the list. Belkin is a cheap router, but the best for changing IP address.
