changing ip with TekSavvy

I usually use tether for ip switch but it should be quicker with the router reset.
I have teksavvy but i switching the router off and then powered it on after a while it has the same ip.Is there something I missed
Thanks :)

Re: changing ip with TekSavvy

Switching the router off doesnt change the IP - you need to shut down the modem...the main Net connection

Re: changing ip with TekSavvy

yes i switched both the modem and the router off and then after a while switched it on but the ip is same

I checked out Teksavvy.

TekSavvy - Internet - seems like it's cable internet...static IP :( go for Bell DSL or something

Means the IP is static.

You need another option.

Re: changing ip with TekSavvy

thanks
i tried changing the mac address and it changes the last 3 digits of the ip but the rest is exactly the same
too risky right

rsot 08-02-2014 08:35 AM

Re: changing ip with TekSavvy

Example? Write out the IP...you sure it's not the internal network IP you are talking about? Starts with 198.XXX I think.

Re: changing ip with TekSavvy

so say this was the old ip

123.45.678.32

new one is

123.45.678.198

so the last digits changed.this is after i changed the mac address on the router but i changed it very slightly and did it after reading a thread about it

Re: changing ip with TekSavvy

If the last 3 digits have changed you have been successful. The remainder of the address could very well stay the same since your ISP have allocated a specific range of addresses to subscribers in your area, but as far as 3rd party hosts know, you are a different person.

Just a warning though: I wouldn't recommend using an IP attached your subscriber identity for any "controversial" activity. Perhaps you should look into a dedicated proxy or VPN.

Proxy or VPN? Why so - better options exist...

If you absolutely go for those options, should use a non-overused service

What do you consider to be a better option?

I agree that many VPN and proxy are overused, it was a mistake to suggest this, VPN (especially from big companies) may be unsuitable for this type of activity. I think VPS is the best option because:

1. companies that offer only VPS will have less likelihood of their IPs being spoiled since they are used primarily for server hosting, and they aren't shared among among many users like a VPN.

2. using a VPS will eliminate the risk of your real IP leaking due to browser exploits from javascript/flash etc.

3. VPS is pretty cheap too, a 512MB linux server is enough for web browsing. can get one for like $5. good comparisons at: Compare VPS hosting plans - comparevps.com

Yes. but make sure you clear your browser cookies and use a different User profile or they will link your new IP to your old one.

Re: changing ip with TekSavvy

Just a different user profile is adequate for eB

Yes, that's fine.

The only time this won't be fine is if eBay is trying to link accounts via IP range but there are SO many people using eBay and PayPal it's not feasible.

So ... yes, that's fine.

Re: changing ip with TekSavvy

Maybe you should read a lot more of the fourm before making these recommendations.

You are not quite accurate in your efforts to help.

do you want the BLUNT truth?

I would not be using a similar range of IPs for amazon EVER

It would also be a stretch for using them on ebay.
