IP Address Confusion
 

Greetings all!

After scouring the forums for a few moments; I have come up blank when it comes to changing IP Addresses between accounts.

For instance lets say ebay acct #1 is assigned IP address 11.111.11.11. and then I go to create ebay acct #2 on a separate computer user acct, going through the process of changing the IP Address to 11.111.11.12; will I then have to change the IP Address back to 11.111.11.11 before logging into ebay acct #1 on the original computer user acct?

If so how can this be done without having to set the IP Address to static?

Hi there,

If you use a dongle or similar, then every time you reset it, you will have a new IP address. It doesn't have to be the same IP every time you log into the account, as long as it's not the same IP that you have used on another account.

If you log down the IP each time you can make sure they are not duplicated.

Its fine to create EB #1 with IP 11.111.11.11

Then create EB #2 with IP 11.111.11.12

You can then log into EB #1 with IP any IP other than 11.111.11.12. It does not need to be IP 11.111.11.11

It is important to track your IP to make sure there is no cross over IP's

So I am guessing that the "used" IP address from EB#1 has a slim chance of ever appearing again between computer accounts? I just have to make sure I change the IP along with the MAC Address for each computer user thus reflecting on the EB account?

I have been working at this for a while now, and sometimes I get fearful if this is my hangup especially if I am purchasing prepaid cards with names and then those names get linked.... :tears:

IP address do repeat. That is why its important to keep track of them

If you want to retain IP addresses, when you change it back and forth, keep the same MAC address with the account.

For example,

keep 111.111.111.111 IP with MAC 05:05:05:06
keep 222.222.222.222 IP with MAC 05:05:05:07

When you switch between MAC :06 and MAC :07, your modem will recognize your router's MAC and reassign the same IP if the lease time did not expire.

I do this a lot with Comcast (Arris TM602G modem with Netgear N600 router).

I notice whenever I switch my MAC address back and forth between user accounts on the computer it doesn't assign me the same IP address...

This varies between ISP companies based on their lease time. There is no guarantee you will retain an IP.
