Questions about IP addresses...

Hi,

I have just purchased a stealth account and want to make sure I understand as many scenarios as possible In regards to IP's.

1. My IP doesn't seem to change easily, I try the ipconfig/release on command prompt and ipconfig/renew as well as resetting the router and it seems to take a few times doing this before it will actually change, is this normal?

2. When my IP changes, I have noticed a couple of times it is only the very last 2/3 digits that change... for example after the last decimal point it might be 307 instead of 20 but every other number is exactly the same on both IP's.... Is this still effective as a change of IP or does it have to be an entirely different IP address?

3. When I log into the new windows user account for the stealth account, does it matter that my internet connection is still running and I have just came from the old windows user account which is technically where the last suspended was operated from? At what point does a link take place with IP addresses? Also, when I have finished using ebay for the stealth account in the new windows user account, do I just go straight to my old windows user account and reset the IP again?

4. It's possible to link my mobile to the laptop in terms of tethering or a hotspot as people might know it... This is effectively just a source of internet but does this matter if my mobile has been logged onto the email address where my old suspended account emails were received? Or should I just not use this way of connecting to the internet (the only reason I would do it is that it changes the IP address easy and quickly)?

5. Just on that with the mobile internet, can you change the IP address of your mobile?

6. At what point does ebay link IP's. Is it just if you log into ebay/paypal or can it do it via emails. Sometimes when you go to login to ebay your username is already shown so If I swap windows user accounts and this is the case, would that mean it has been linked or should I do something to prevent this happening?

Sorry for all the questions and I realise some of these might be simple but I just want to be absolutely sure to make sure no links are made with IP's.

Thanks

Yes, this can happen. What ISP do you have now?

Suggests your IP is dynamic. It is OK for the last digits to change. paypal/ebay expect this. So long as the IP have not been used on a suspended account, you should be OK.

Be careful about accessing old suspended accounts & new ones. You can make an error. Change that method.

Thanks
My ipad is about to drop out. I've only replied to part of the questions.

Hope that helps.

1
Sounds like BT or sky used to be the same. Name your provider and router and someone may have a solution.

2
does not matter but make sure you record your IPs

3
It links only when you use ebay/paypal not the windows user account. Also internet explorer and firefox have separate data store. Which comes in handy if you wish to use an email program to read your emails when you have several accounts, as most will use the cookies of either firefox or IE.

4
I'll leave that to those that use them

5
No idea, my mobile resembles an old brick. But the charge lasts for days

6
Debate goes on about emails: Emails are normally one way but if you allow images, it is considered to leave an imprint on flash cookies on your browser that a site can read.
All debatable but everyone blocks images showing in email just in case.

A new user account should show nothing of the old, as there are no cookies relating to the old site on a new user account. Only thing that could link you would be a listing program like turbo lister that crosses borders or ebay/paypal apps on your phone.

No need to apologize about questions better to be sure now than crying later.

One last point is the link may not come instantly as if some bot is monitoring IP use, but more likely when you are reviewed by a human down the line.

Hi GreenBean/Isitworththestress,

My ISP is sky boradband at home and BTbusiness Fibre for the business premises.

Another thing I wanted to check, I use my email everyday, is it okay having the GMail emails forwarded onto my regular use email account? Or is this a complete no?

Thanks for the help.

Yeah just do not show images

I have all my emails go to thunderbird and never had a problem but they do not show images as standard.

With sky I found switching around the two 6:30s AM and PM helped a bit for some reason But BT was a mystery as it seemed to do what ever it wanted but that was a while ago and I wanted fixed IP at the time.

I would suggest simply buying a dongle. its a small usb stick, plug it in and you have a new ip almost everytime.

only £10 a month ish and is so simple to use.

Log your IPs to make sure of no overlapping between accounts OP

You can use one email client like Mozilla Thunderbird to operate all of your accounts easily. Just remember to turn off images and do not reply to ebay messages from the client.

Re: Questions about IP addresses...

So if I had 3-4 stealth accounts and I was logged into my email in just one of those windows users accounts, I could have all the ebay accounts forward to the one email account and view them as long as the images are turned off and as long as I dont reply to any of them or click any links?

Re: Questions about IP addresses...

Yes, but they are not forwarded to one email account, it's an email client. Basically, you add your email accounts to the email client and you can review them all from the client.
