IP Address change in Comcast has changed
 

Has comcast changed the way their DHCP gives out External IP address?

I followed the steps provided in the Ebay Stealth (changed my router mac address) but my external IP address remains the same. I may have tried it at least 5 times with the same result.

So, I logged into the my Comcast Business Gateway. It showed my external Gateway address but the information that was coded was Cable MAc address ( I have confirmed that this is the mac address of my Business modem) and the WAN MAC Address (Not sure which Device mac that is).

So this explains why comcast keeps retaining the public Ip address because it is not looking at the router mac anymore....but instead it looks at the Modem Mac address.

What is this WAN MAC address? All the numbers are the same as the modem mac except for the the last 2 numbers XX.XX.XX.XX.XX.78

Can anyone shed a light on this ?

Buy your own modem, and or change your router. The method still works.

At least your modem shows a valid address. Mine gets 00000000 or whatever the amount is but all zero.
I got tired of messing with it so I bought a bunch of cheap routers and unplug and replug. The cool thing is that almost always a router pulls back the same old IP almost as if it is static, so Router labeled EBAY123 goes to ebay account EBAY123 and Router labeled MRMONEYMAN goes to ebay account MRMONEYMAN etc... and of course I still log those IPs
This is not a big deal to me but can see why it is to others.

I can see where buying my own modem would make it difference but what would change if I buy different router if it not using the router's Mac but instead using the modem's mac....?

It's going to get extremely long, tiresome, and annoying having to swap out Modems. There are better methods such as Mifi, Dongle, etc.
