Default IP

Hi,

I used to be with Sky broadband and when I switched my router off for as little as 10 seconds and back on again it would issue a totally new IP address. I have recently switched to talktalk and now when I switch off my router and/or reset it it always throws the same IP back at me even if left off over night.

Does anyone use browser add on's to mask their IP and are they effective?
I've recently come across ZenMate add on for Google Chrome which changes your IP and you can manually select to be in numerous different countries of your choice.

I don't like the idea of having to buy a dongle and pay more money to keep topping it up. Is there any other way to change my IP in my router settings etc...?

Just wondering if this is an ok alternative to mask my IP when switching between accounts?

Thanks in advance,
GS.

Not effective, bad idea.

Again, bad idea.

If you can't afford a Dongle then your obviously not making enough money and thus should stop selling. A dongle is not that expensive.

Bad idea, do you see a pattern in my answers? hopefully you do.

Masking, Hiding, etc are bad ideas. If you can't afford a dongle then try any of the following:
1. Phone Tethering
2. Dial-Up

Sometimes trying to cut costs, just makes you lose even more money. Dongles are really not that expensive

Dongles and phone tethering really are your best options if you have a static or sticky IP address.

Transcript from TalkTalk... doesn't seem they know whether I have static or dynamic!!

Just copied and pasted this from online chat:

Elizabeth: Hi, thank you for contacting TalkTalk today, can I please start by taking your full name and home telephone number?
You: xxxxxxxxxx
Elizabeth: Thank you for the information. How may I help you today?
You: xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Elizabeth: Thank you xxxxxx .
You: I have recently signed up to TalkTalk and was told when I joined that all your internet connections contain a dynamic IP address. not static. However, whenever I reset my router or switch it off for up to an hour and re-start it it issues me the same IP address
Elizabeth: I'm sorry, we provide Static IP and not dynamic.
You: There are certain sites i use in which i would prefer to be able to change my IP address manually from time to time but at the moment it seems as though I am constantly stuck with the same one
Elizabeth: Can you tell me was this informed on chat or phone support so I can check if there's any notes?
You: I was told when I signed up that all your connections are dynamic
You: This was over the phone
Elizabeth: Harry, you'll need to contact the sales compliance team, they'll check the call records and will help you accordingly if this was promised as we don't give dynamic IP.
You: How come on your website and numerous forums including your own that you only ever issue dynamic IP addresses and not static?
You: What is an IP address? | TalkTalk Help
You: ?
Elizabeth: I'm sorry, I just opened the link it says no where that we provide you Static IP.
You: please look under: 'Will my IP address stay the same?'
You: It clearly states
You: "No, each time your router connects to the broadband service you will be given a new address. This is known as a dynamic IP address. We do not offer Static IP addresses, where your IP address would stay the same each time you connect."
Elizabeth: Yes, this is written we don't provide Static IP .
You: So you don't provide static IP address's?
You: But you said above: Elizabeth: I'm sorry, we provide static IP and not dynamic.
Elizabeth: Sorry, it was done by mistake.
You: So can you confirm which one it is please?

Just found another option.

When I signed up for TalkTalk they messed up and sent me 2 x routers.
I now have them side by side and just switch my ethernet cable from my usual one to this new one which each have a separate IP.

I can then use 1 router for stealth eBay account and 1 for everything else.

That solution will only work if you are running 1 stealth account.

Stealth done correctly does cost money. It should be easily absorbed by your profit, if not your in the wrong game...

hi I have the exact problem as above , I am also with talktalk, and after few research I found out that they are given us dynamic ip but the problem is with fibre optic it will come with bt open reach , and a modem router (2 in 1) , which wont let you change the ip .
so I am going for tethering with my iphone , the only problem is the 3g is quite weak where I live so it is quite slow.
any ideas , suggestions ?
