Trouble Changing IP Address

Hello,

I'm new here and having trouble changing my IP address. I have a cable modem provided by my isp. I went to my router's setup page, but I cannot change the MAC address. It just will not let me edit it. I went and purchased another router, and had to connect it through the cable modem, again same IP address. Is my only other option to spoof it? Any help would be appreciated!

Also, I have a Mac. My IP is static by my service provider. I read that when a device connects you can request a dynamic IP? Please help, thanks.
