Need help with Belkin Router and Netgear modem

Hi there,

I have been trying for the past week to change my IP address. I have cox internet and use a netgear cg3000d moden/router all in one along with a belkin F5D9230-4 router. My IP is dynamic so it should be possible to change it. I have tried altering the MAC address of the belkin router by one or two digits in the last octet and then restarting both of the routers but this has not worked at all. I have a feeling that cox internet may just be difficult to deal with. Does anybody have any experience dealing with these similar devices? I am not the most tech savvy individual so that could also be part of the problem, but I feel pretty confident that I have correctly altered the MAC address and followed the advice given in the stickies.

Thanks in advance for the help!

That's your problem right there.....Cox, Time Warner are very difficult to get new IP's. I would suggest finding another method such as:
1. Phone Tethering
2. Mifi/Dongle
3. Dialup

don't know where you live but I have had success with Comcast cable. What I did was order one of those lifetime boxes that you can find on CRAIGSLIST.com sold by thee Comcast workers themselves. just search "Comcast Internet".

All you need is Basic cable and the Internet Modem you purchase works like a charm for a pretty long time at a FLAT COST.

I have a Belkin Router by far the best when it comes to switching IP's in my experience.
With this setup you shouldnt have a problem at all.

OPTION 2.
Another method that might work would be switching the actual router to another one then check IP see if it works.

oh and Have you read the stealth guide?

buy it.

WELL GOODLUCK HOPE YOU FIND A RESOLUTION

I would disagree with the first response. I have had Cox and TW, never having a problem when changing my mac addresses. After changing the _WAN_ (ISP Facing) interface's mac address, be sure to _ALSO_ reboot the modem unit.

HTH.

While that may be working for you....the MAJORITY have come to the same conclusion that it's not a solid method, furthermore....people like me who have others in the home using the same Internet....is not exactly a viable method due to the interruption it causes.

I mean no offense. I just have lived in 3 states in the past 5 years and this has always worked. My ISPs were Cox and TW.
