Can I change ip on my wifi repeater instead??

We have a lot of laptops, smartphones and directv hooked thru our router and I work in garage and had to get wifi repeater to get wifi in garage. Since I connect to the repeater wouldn't I need to change the Ip address on it and how do I go about this. I'm so confused and getting aggravated.

Repeater will only have an internal private IP.

You need to have your public IP changed. This is the IP any website that you connect to can see. Simply check it by going to Track Your IP Address - IPBurger.com.

If this is too difficult, it is best to pick up your own MiFi box. Do a search here on the forums and you will see all the information you need and more to get started. It's very simple.

What did you try to do??

The repeater or extender will just use the same external IP as your Router, so to change the IP you will need to go through router settings and change your MAC and reset the modem and Router it will than pick up a new IP

But if you have a big use for wifi throughout your house from what you are saying you do, so changing the IP through your router will not be IDeal

Every time you do this you will need to reset the modem and router so all the devices in the house will go out for a couple minutes and if you have multiple accounts it will be very disruptive to your household if you need to change your IP 10+ times a day

The best option is to get a Verizon Jetpack MIFI, it has 4G LTE XTE speeds and a huge IP pool so you can run many accounts with a simple deceive that will usually have a new IP by switching on and off

Mine just went stupid! Hubby turns power off and on and doesn't tell me the same time I reset it cuz it wouldn't take login info now it don't even know who it is lol. When I say things do go like their supposed to I'm not joking. Every thing goes wrong always!

albaugh94, you need to research MiFi boxes. In this situation, it's best not to delve too much into things you don't have enough experience with because you will just waste your time and risk wanting to give up.

You can pick up a MiFi box at Walmart to get started and learn how it works. You will have your own personal IP address that does not interfere with your home network.

Plan on paying at least $20/month or more depending on how much data you need and which carrier you choose. I use multiple boxes myself and run my entire business on them.

Re: Can I change ip on my wifi repeater instead??

The thing is I do have a lot of past experience but I've got early onset Alzheimer's bipolar and ocd. So I can't make myself quit. Tried hookinh up new router had linksys on chat and router turned out to be one that has been flashed so he just hung up on me. My problem was logging into the router itself, no password worked. So went and bought new one last night figure I'll change ip during installation just putting it off cuz me and electronics anymore don't agree and it's a smart one so hoping it's a hook up and you're ready! But for me it's NEVER that easy.

If I'm on cellular data on my phone can they track that?

Re: Can I change ip on my wifi repeater instead??

The bad thing about changing your IP through your router is that it seems in your case you have a lot of devices relying on your home wifi, so everytime you need to change your IP you will be disrupting your household

If someone is watching TV, or on the Internet or playing a game I think u said XBox, it will all be disconnected from your wifi

And depending in how many accounts you run than you may be changing your IP 10+ times a day

But maybe I'm wrong and all the devices you mentioned were just for you and there is no one else in the house that would be disruptive from this, but something to think of

A simple Verizon MiFi device that you can purchase online for $40 will give you the fastest speeds and a huge pool of IPs to run countless accounts, and changing an IP is as simple as pushing a button

Also you can use your cell phone IP That will work if you go the tethering route

Re: Can I change ip on my wifi repeater instead??

Again, as DMshark said, you seem to have way too many devices relying on this network to be constantly messing with it unless you know exactly what your are doing.

Since you are already struggling, it's best you go the MiFi/dongle route. It will not interfere with anything and the changing of IP's is handled by the box/dongle itself.
