| nodeal | 03-19-2015 11:38 PM | Duplicate IPs from Verizon Jetpack Mifi Hotspot I had a verizon mobile hotspot (Jetpack 890L) for over a year and it worked great. Unfortunately it died on me a couple weeks ago and I had to get it replaced. I replaced it with the mifi hotspot model Jetpack 5510L. This is the next model up from the one I previously had, and it's terrible.
It takes way too long to connect, I have to hold down the button to turn it off (which is annoying), and it's constantly giving me duplicate IPs. Sometimes it just gives me only 2 different IPs over and over.
I am very surprised because I knew the jetpack hotspots to be very good and don't understand why a later model would cause duplicate IPs. Anybody having this issue? I am going to call Verizon tomorrow to see what can be done, but just wanted to know if anyone else is going through the same issue? |

| pr0wake | 03-20-2015 12:17 AM | Re: Duplicate IPs from Verizon Jetpack Mifi Hotspot have you tried pulling the battery as a faster method? it may do a better job at switching the IP consistently.
it is unfortunate, some newer verizon devices are reduced in quality to cut costs.. the 5510L is an example.
good luck! |

good luck! | Thanks. It seems all too often the newer model = the sh*ttier model. Will definitely try pulling the battery When i get back to the office tomorrow! |
| Dmshark25 | 03-20-2015 01:48 AM | Re: Duplicate IPs from Verizon Jetpack Mifi Hotspot I have the 5510L since December and I,love it , never connection problems , huge IP pool, I get faster speeds than my Comcast broadband
It can't be the service because you said you already had Verizon, so maybe it's the hardware and you have a defective Jetpack
This is the best one I have used so far, better than any VERIZON, TMOBILE OR ATT hotspot |
| nodeal | 03-20-2015 09:21 AM | Re: Duplicate IPs from Verizon Jetpack Mifi Hotspot damn DM, crazy how we can have two different experiences. Maybe my hardware is messed up.
I took the battery out and put it back in. FInally giving me some fresh IP addresses now. That was the biggest issue for me. I need new IP addresses to operate. I can live with everything else. |

So it could be the device.
Before the 550l jetpack I had the 450l Mifi, and that also worked well , and it was verizon so I had the same IP range, but the 550l I like much better because not only does it support LTE it also has XTE capability, so I get a huge IP Pool, but a faster stronger connection
And the 450l did not work while it was charging no idea why they would make it like that, but the 550l you can use while it charges
Also the display is better than my last version
But all I need to do is hold the power button in for a second and it shuts off and than I push it on again and have a new IP, very rarely does it pick up the same IP, and the few times it has, it's always the one I just used because I turned it off and on right away so it really never broke the connection
But if I power off and count 1,2 and power on it comes back with a new IP, so no issues with that , this has been my favorite device I ever had, and I purchased it as refurbished and it was only $39.99 from eBay |
| nodeal | 03-20-2015 10:56 AM | Re: Duplicate IPs from Verizon Jetpack Mifi Hotspot I'm hoping that the issues I'm having resolve themselves. yeah you're right i never moved, and using my previous verizon hotspot never had an issue. today so far so good with IP addresses, but if the problem keeps persisting ill probably just have to exchange this for a replacement device and hope that works. Thanks for the input Dm |
| nodeal | 03-20-2015 11:10 AM | Re: Duplicate IPs from Verizon Jetpack Mifi Hotspot so what i'm noticing is that when i take the battery out it seems to be all good and give me a different IP, but when I just use the power button to turn the device on/off, i get a duplicate IP. Usually the same IP that was just previously issued to me within the same day. I really don't get it! |

| plumsake2 | 03-20-2015 02:17 PM | Re: Duplicate IPs from Verizon Jetpack Mifi Hotspot Just a thought: are you holding the power button down long enough? I don't have experience with that particular model, but with one of my hotspots if you don't hold the power button down for an obnoxiously long time then it simply goes into sleep mode instead of turning off. Like you swear it's off because there's not LED indicators to prove otherwise, but it's just in a power saving mode. Perhaps your new hotspot is similar? |

You need to press and hold for maybe 2 seconds , basically just look at the display while you hold in the power button until it says logging out |
| Robin Hood of Amazon | 02-06-2019 08:12 PM | Re: Duplicate IPs from Verizon Jetpack Mifi Hotspot Just went thru the same problem. Upgraded to a new T-Mobile hotspot, my old one died, and the new one gives me the same ip address every time. The only way I get a fresh ip address is by taking out the battery and putting it back in. Unbelievable:surrender::doh:! |
