| aking | 03-27-2015 10:25 PM | Mi-Fi Mobile Hot Spot Options I need a new Mobile Hotspot (Mi-fi) device. I purchased a Samsung (Verizon) device that worked great at first as far as speed, but recently it has been extremely slow, which get very annoying.
I may get rid of this one and purchase a new, faster Mi-Fi device. Anyone have any good options they've used in the past? |
| Dmshark25 | 03-27-2015 10:31 PM | Re: Mi-Fi Mobile Hot Spot Options I like the Verizon Jetpack 550l MIFI, it has 4G LTE AND XTE Speeds, and huge IP pool
I have had all of the big 4 Carriers and several Verizon Devices and this one is the best so far
And I purchased it on eBay for only 39.99 and it was like new |
| pca242 | 03-27-2015 10:44 PM | Re: Mi-Fi Mobile Hot Spot Options How much does it usually cost per month to service the MIFI?
You have to get a SIM card, correct? |
| Dmshark25 | 03-27-2015 10:47 PM | Re: Mi-Fi Mobile Hot Spot Options Cost, all depends on whether you want a prepaid plan which is more expensive or if you want to do the whole credit check and it's still a month to month but it renews each month automatically and like I said they run a credit check, but the prices are much better
You can see all the price plans on verizonwireless.com |

| aking | 03-27-2015 10:59 PM | Re: Mi-Fi Mobile Hot Spot Options Well the one I have has 4G LTE capability, but it always runs in 3G. I bought it on ebay and the seller prepaid 2 months. I may ask the seller how to get it to run in 4G LTE speed. |

And usually with this the seller gives 2 months paid
That's fine and I had one of these flashed devices starting out, but if you want fast LTE SPEEDS WITH Double the bandwidth XTE, you will need to purchase a regular verizon devices that is not flashed
And as I mentioned I purchased the Verizon jetpack 550l mifi, but it's the normal device , not flashed , and I get the service at regular price through verizon |

if the signal can not be picked up, it may not run at the desired speed.
I have found out the sad way that it is essential to check reception before spending moolah on a device for stealthing.

| Dmshark25 | 03-28-2015 06:05 PM | Re: Mi-Fi Mobile Hot Spot Options Usually the ones where the service is prepaid is because they have been flashed , because if it was a regular hotspot it couldn't be prepaid, how would the seller know how many gigs to get you, it's prepaid for 2 months because they are flashed and you are getting unlimited Data for a great rate
Also the do Flash 4GLTE capable devices but right now they can only flash the device to get 3G unlimited Data for normally $5-$15 a month
So I don't think it's the reception in this case |
Re: Mi-Fi Mobile Hot Spot Options yeah the flash ones can be pretty slow and frustrating, can't beat the price but can be quite inconvenient if using it frequently |
| aking | 03-31-2015 08:28 AM | Re: Mi-Fi Mobile Hot Spot Options I looked at the plans for the 4G LTE speed (non flashed) hotspots and the plan is like $60 a month. That seems a bit high. Is there any less expensive options? I can deal with maybe $20 a month. |

But if I am doing more then average work, I love using the 890L.. battery is good, easy to read, IP change is as simple as turning off/on (like others I assume), etc. They come up on ebay for like $10-20.
Since it does have a removable battery, you could keep spares on you too if you don't have access to an outlet. |

But Verizon does charge an arm and a leg for service. Due to the net neutrality passing, I am thinking about buying a grandfathered plan on eBay (~$1000) for unlimited bandwidth and start using that for my main internet and phone line.. |
