My continued IP problems..

Hi everyone.

Please first read my initial thread http://www.aspkin.com/forums/ip-addr...-concerns.html

So, I decided to change ISP as advised. Set-up a 30 day rolling contract, received the sim and I was ready to go.

The first week was great, each power cycle I'd get a fresh IP. Each IP ranged was totally different so I assumed the IP pool had a large range.

However start of week two I turned my MIFI device on in the morning.. fresh IP.. restarted for the next account... fresh IP.. restarted again for my 3rd account... reverted back to the first IP. Then stayed on this IP no matter how many power cycles.

This is happens all the time now, I will get 2 fresh IPs per day then it will either revert back to the first or stick on the second.

Yesterday I thought i'd leave it off for 3/4 hours then return but still it was stuck on the first IP.

I've tried inserting my old ISP sim, getting a different IP, then re-inserting the latest ISP sim however it STILL remains on one of the 2 IPs.

I've also reset the MIFI device but again no luck.

Any advice? Could it be the MIFI device (Huawei E587)?

What network is this new SIM on?]

It won't be the device, IP is based on your network provider.

The new sim is EE. One thing I noticed is that the MIFI device will show "Orange" or "T-mobile" as opposed to just "EE". I thought the 2 IPs could be from one of each? But I thought they were dynamic.

When EE do updates, the IP tends not to change for a few hours, I have had this problem a lot so i use three now.

Re: My continued IP problems..

Any idea how often these updates are? I've had the problem for around 5/6 days.

Also the first restart I do will result in a change of IP but nothing after that.

I was initially using three however the IP pool was very small for me. I'm now hitting old IPs 4/5 hence the switch. Wasn't sure how else to get around it.

Thanks Bunneh. However my only issue is that the IP only changes once per day. Signal etc is all great.

Could they be linked?

Bunneh 05-26-2015 08:36 AM

Re: My continued IP problems..

not sure if they linked but EE is known for the IP problems.
The sales men in store dont even know what a IP is so they couldn't even help you :(

Re: My continued IP problems..

Are you running on 4G here? 4G has a very small IP pool in certain areas so you will get a very limited range

Re: My continued IP problems..

No just 3G. Seem to be having pretty bad luck with IPs:mad2:. Everything else couldn't be running more smoothly

Re: My continued IP problems..

Thought it might be worth adding i've been tethering off my iPhone also running on EE and have had zero problems generating a fresh IP each power cycle?

Re: My continued IP problems..

Why not just stick with that method if that has been working?

I need approx 20GB per month and currently have only 3GB on my phone contract.

However I suppose there's nothing stopping me putting my data only sim into my phone? Something i'll have to try.

How in the world did you come up with 20GB? Are you uploading 1GB pictures? 3GB might not be enough, if you can upgrade to a 5GB you will be fine.

Re: My continued IP problems..

Actually 13GB is my total usage on my Mac. Stealth + everything else.

So in that case I should be able to continue tethering with no problems with maybe a couple of GB upgrade as MM78 suggests.

I can they use the MIFI for all my other usage needs.

Thanks all.

Thanks for that.

It may be an idea to save the tethering just for stealth and everything else you can do via the MiFi that does not change IP much or your home internet connections.
