| pirate1122 | 01-06-2016 08:14 AM | Verizon Phone Hotspot vs Mifi? I was about to purchase one of the hotspots with unlimited 3g for $15 a month, when I saw they sell phones that do the same. They seller also claims they are stronger than the mifi 2200? I Would love to hear anyone's opinion. EBAY LINK http://www.ebay.com/itm/Flashed-to-V...YAAOSwNyFWg2lB |

| yankee | 01-06-2016 09:13 AM | Re: Verizon Phone Hotspot vs Mifi? both do the same thing. In theory the phones will not die as fast as a mifi and yes the phones usually have a stronger signal as well. |

| glacier922 | 01-06-2016 10:03 PM | Re: Verizon Phone Hotspot vs Mifi? Phone is better, just click airplane mode, turn it off, new ip. Way faster than mifi. Also u can pay for 5 bucks if u know Verizon pin. Just ask the seller to provide u with that. |

Make sure u know the account pin tho, that way u can add 5 bucks to it. If not, it's 15 bucks if u buy the Verizon gift card, I'd rather pay 5 bucks. |

They are referring to a Flashed Mifi, which is 3G speed |
| faint | 10-27-2016 01:03 PM | Re: Verizon Phone Hotspot vs Mifi? I am also debating between these two:
LG Optimus Zone Verizon Wireless UNLIMITED 3G For $15 A Month Prepaid Hotspot RV
or
MIFI JETPACK 890L 4G LT Flashed UNLIMITED 3G Verizon $5 A MONTH 2 MONTHS FREE
Both devices are $90.
The LG phone provides two choices for monthly data, $5 or $15.
The 890L charges $5.
Has anyone used both of them and which one do you suggest?
THanks! |
Re: Verizon Phone Hotspot vs Mifi? I have 2 of the 890L's and I love them! go with the 890L. I'm also using them with the 3G, and it's $5/month not $15 last I checked. Post a link to the auction just put: "****Warning - Ebay Link**** above the link. |
Re: Verizon Phone Hotspot vs Mifi? I live in what some would consider a city that's on the beach. to me, being from Miami, its country as hell. my LG phone flashed to $5 a month 3G is as fast as my AT&T 4G Lte when I use ebay and PayPal connected through the cellular hotspot from INSIDE MY HOUSE. From what I read on the XDA forum the person flashing the mifi can use the same doner phone on multiple mifi devices to save money. The more devices that run off the same donor the slower it will be. Also Verizon does updates that most mifi's can not except. This will also make it run slow or stop working all together. Your best bet is the phone which will automatically update and does not need a donor. Before you buy ask these questions. There is suppose to be one or more mifi's that can except updates but cant remember which ones but would still need a donor phone.
This info comes from what I read on the XDA forum so don't attack me if the info I read was incorrect.
The XDA forum is a place you can get the info on how to flash a android to Verizon 3G yourself. But that doesn't mean all the info is correct.
If you add the $15 card to the phone flashed to 3g, you get unlimited data plus text and some minutes but cant remember how many, it might even be unlimited mins. The $5 only gives unlimited data. From the responses I got off sellers on eBay it seems all the flashed phones work this way. Again you'd have to ask the seller to be sure.
Another Plus to the phone is you can check your IP address on the phone instead of using IP Burger or Whoer.net on your computer right before you log into ebay. IP Burger or what ever site you use to check your IP most likely puts cookies on your computer. I'm guessing ebay and paypal can see that and would know you always check your IP address before logging in. If you use the browser on the phone to check IP the cookies are stored on the phone not the computer and ebay should not be able to see them.
I would be willing to bet that ebay & paypal look for aspkin.com and ipburger.com cookies... |

the ip range is great but speeds can be so horrible especially loading pics :violin: | hey guys quick question, seems like the right place to ask.
i had an old eBay/pay pal account which i deleted a month ago, i never logged the ips for that account and i was using my phone to tether.
couple of months ago i created a new account and used different phone but same isp to access new account using tethering again.
now i started login ips but can i safely keep using same phone to tether and take a chance an ip might repeat from my old account??? will this be ok since i deleted the old account?? or am i better off using a different isp altogether so i get a new pool of ips and keep track overtime ??
please advice, i know it sucks that i must it log in and out at least 500 times with old account without logging those ips.
thank you for your advice! |

Back then they used the LG Optimus Zone 2... I'm pretty sure you can find that phone anymore. Newer phones are a little harder to root too. Back then you could use towelroot by George Hotz... (long before he worked for Google).
What I said about websites seeing cookies.... I had no idea what I was talking about. It was just a theory... and I was way off.. |

Like, would a california area coded device have a different pool from a new york area coded device?
It would be awesome if that were the case |

Yes, they both give IP addresses based on the area you are in. 95% of the time AT&T in my area gives IP addresses locally, maybe up to 150 mile radius.
Verizon 3G in my area you could end up with a IP address from anywhere in my experience. Maybe 50% of the time you get a IP address locally, but locally for Verizon 3G maybe up to 300-400 miles. |

Would you say the location is based off of GPS, or would it be literally from the zip/area code you choose when signing up? |

If you were to travel a hundred miles or so it will keep the same IP and location until you toggle data. Then you will get a new IP in the location in the surrounding area of the tower you are connected to.
For Verizon 3G there is no rhyme or reason to the IP's or locations you will get... You could end up with one in another state some where in a city you've never heard of. |
