Creating a 2nd ebay account or a new account? what to do

Hi everyone,
I'm a powerseller on ebay and to get some more volume going through my account i want to open a 2nd ebay account linked in to my powerseller account so i can spread inventory. I am selling jewellery but need to spread it across another account so as to get more sales but i dont want to go to the effort of making a brand new account but am thinking about a second ebay account - what are your thoughts/experiences on this.

I have a second account all ready to go ( stealth ) but its not seller verified yet or paypal verified and now australian ebay apparently makes you verify via the phone?

any advice?

Hi, ksg

Well done on being a powerseller. Under those circumstances I would (and have) made a second account in the same user details. That way you can have both accounts on the same paypal for your sales. That means that you can 'keep' that stealth account completly apart as a back up for any problems. You will have three accounts not two..:peace:

Okay, I'll bite.
Maybe I am being really naive but how does doing the same thing under 2 accounts increase sales?

I have 2 accounts for each stealth seller. Unless it is obviously, buyers don't know that both accounts belong to the same person. And it is the same as having 2 separate accounts. Just less work. The down side - I get to lose 2 if I mess up with one.

If the accounts are not linked and one has a listing prob, the other is still selling. Can creatively use each to drive UP the price of the other. Can make 2 very different formats and campaigns. What doesn't appeal to one demographic could appeal to another.

I've done it in the past just to test a theory. Worked well enough once I figured out the gimicks. Probably not viable for every product, but good for some.

I agree... splitting products across multiple accounts has lots of advantages.

You have your egggs in more than one basket;) vicvelcro gave you a good analysis. In my case mine are linked BUT I chose that way.... the sweet little buyer is nicely manipulated

Vicvelcro 08-15-2009 05:14 PM

Example:

ebay A creates a listing for swimwear - listing designed to appeal to young ladies of average college student age. They like it. Maybe middle aged ladies won't like the listing for appearance or verbiage. I lose the middle age sales.

ebay B creates listing for same swimwear - different pics and different wording, designed to appeal to the middle aged lady. Middle age likes it, college girls don't. I lose the college sales.

So, I get BOTH groups buying MY item. Neither has a clue they are buying the same thing from the same person. I get sales I would have otherwise MISSED, had I only targetted one class of buyer.

That is the end of the lesson. The rest of the technique, I keep for my own benefit.

hi- yes i agree with everyone here about the reasons behind it - im getting questions like why do i have so many of this item ( even though its legit) and then people saying ' ohh ill wait until you list more' so i want create some urgency and also appeal to other buyers.

My question is esp to greenbean as im an aussie account too - did you sign up a 2nd account using all the same details as the main account - just a different email? did you ever have an isues with it?

No problems with these in OZ. Any problems are from buyers.
