New windows users but lost admin password
 

Having a good google about it seems it's very common for people to have forgotten the Admin password for there PC as it never asks for it when it boots up with just the one Admin account on it.

I clearly did set one when I installed the OS as the hint is something I would have written, but I'll be dammed if I can workout what it was!

It seems I can use "control userpasswords2" to give me a new Admin password but when I got in there (in safe mode) it warned me I would lose data if I reset the admin password, so I'm not too keen to damage a good PC (it's working better than ever after running CClean to get one new ebay account).

So I have two few questions:

I assume that if I did create a new user account on my PC & logged out of my admin account to access the new one, I would need the lost admin password to get back into my admin acount? I've not yet tried making any new user accounts assuming this to be the case.

Also I only want one ebay account for my self & one for my other half. She would like to have her own paypay account so it seems prudent to try to keep them separate. Is it worthwhile going to the lengths of keeping the IT stuff separate seeing as we live at the same house so will have the same address? We are not married so do have different last names. (We have moved house since getting banned so the new address is clean)

OK get yourself a copy of MSDart either 32bit or 64bit....boot the PC down and then boot from disc, will take you to a screen which is the software on the disc.

Thanks for those replys, I've finally remember where the boot from setting was in my PC so I'll give one if them a try. Using windows to make a password recovery disk seems to require me finding a floppy disk, I'd forgotten it had an A drive....

LOL, your doesn't seems to be a very good Stealther attitude...

You have to be precise and careful, write down everything, passwords IPs and procedures.
Stealth metod is an art.

Ha you're quite right, my brain just doesn't work like that I forget everything, I annoy my self!

As I said I only want one account for me & one for my better half, any more & I know I'd go wrong!

There's no point in writing anything down as I just loose the paper it's written on, or the kids use it for something else. I thought keeping a list of passwords on my phone would be a good move & it's worked for the last 5 years, but I think I've lost my phone now, at least it was backed up, I hope...

I use to write down on a txt file that I place on the desktop of each account...

for some accounts I just write few notes (Gmail, eBay and PP login/pass) on the desktop wallpaper of that account (graphically). This way I always know "where I am" and what to do :thumb:

I keep a jpeg with the pw on it for each account as well - tracking
