Pros and Cons of accounts based in other countries

I read about people based in USA having accounts based out of UK and Canada, and I'm curious as to why this is done. Is this to reach more customers, or is it more because of different regulations in different countries? I know one of the benefits would be not having to deal with the 200/20000 threshold in Paypal, but I'm sure other countries have similar laws requiring verification at a certain point.

Could some of you explain why you have chosen to have accounts in other countries? I guess for a drop-shipper it would be beneficial to have a China account. But that doesn't explain why a US seller would use a Canadian account.

I look forward to an insightful explanation :yar:

Main thing many USA posters have said about making Canadian accounts is no 200/$20,000 issues.

My accounts are based where I have a network of support. Because of that I have access to addresses, banks and internet.
Going to look forward to more talk on this too

Other countries, like mine, have the benefit to withdraw to CC other than bank account or, in my opinion, a less "strict" surveillance from eBay/PayPal.

On the other hand you have to overcome other issues like phone number which is not easy if you are not physically here...

For example, I like Latvian accs, because no SSN horror stories, can withdraw to VCC, county is small and does not have large quantities of scam coming out of it, so EB does not pay lot attention to Latvian accounts etc.

I like to vary activity and explore different banking realms and currencies :)

Latvia would be cool to access for me hmm

I personally don't see a problem with US accounts.. it's easy enough to stay under the yearly limits (with multiple accounts) and if push comes to shove an EIN can solve the problem. US accounts for the win. :P

Depending on where you personally live, getting EIN or a bank for withdrawals is easy if you live in US yourself, but for EU guys, having US/UK acc is not so handy.

I have accounts mostly in Europe, advantages are: different selling limits, withdrawal to card, avoiding 21 hold, arbitrage.

Greenbean - I figured the IRS had something to do with it

Icarletto & muzzie - I knew that was an option in some countries. Do either of you think it would be possible for a person based in USA to get what is necessary to operate an account in one of those countries? (bank account, phone number, etc..)

rsot - I'm also interested in operating (virtually) in other countries, but I've not yet taken that step. Currency conversion is a big reason why I'm interested though. If I had a bunch of money in a foreign paypal and the USD weakens, I would have more USD when I convert, right? Forex isn't my specialty, but I've always been interested.

Aspkin - I have no problem with US accounts (they've made me a lot of money), I guess I'm just looking to diversify. I have 3 EIN's and 7 or 8 accounts which I keep under the IRS limit. But I process a massive amount of orders which are all $10 - $200 BIN's. It's impossible for me to build a strong, reputable account if I can only process 200 transactions per year. And I don't want to have 11 EIN's. So having some accounts set up in foreign countries is sounding more and more like a good idea for my long-term business plan, IF it is feasible.

sax4 - Selling limits and Paypal holds aren't an issue for me but the ability to withdraw to a VCC would be beneficial. Do you still have to attach a bank account? If so I'm assuming it could be a VBA? I'm thinking if I were to set up shop in another country, the ability to withdraw to a card would bypass the need for a bank account in that country?

What do you guys do about the location you are shipping from, if you aren't shipping from the country you say you are? If I set up a Canadian account and proceeded to ship all order using USPS, would that be a problem?

One of the steps I take with Canadian accounts is to have close proximity to the US border.... Nudge nudge wink wink...

You have the choice with these countries to withdraw to usa bank, or a card. Choose the country carefully as with some countries it takes longer to receive card deposits than others

Yes Stealthers are certainly outside of the box thinkers. I've been working remotely from other countries for many years now, leaving England was a huge life hack. I was there for Christmas, you may as well pull down your pants as soon as you arrive at the airport with the transportation prices. Plus it was raining everyday :(

Where I live right now i have a luxury apartment for $500 a month, beer is $1, lunch $2, unlimited Internet for my phone $10. Plus gorgeous women everywhere :)

I meet a fair few location independent people on my travels, most of them doing Internet marketing, met a few ebayers too.

I know you're new to the being a boss game, but I'm already settled all over this country and I'm looking to broaden my horizons. I don't think you read my post carefully, since I clearly stated why I am looking to do this. :spy:

Anyway, thank you Greenbean. You've given me a direction to go with this, when I get the time..

Eastern Europe, yeah that can be a problem. I do dropshipping which is is perfect for this lifestyle. I saw another post here about a guy eho does fulfilment by Amazon, which sounds great for being location independent

It looks like Iraq doesn't support pp either. So much for my crude oil dropshipping business :(
