im going to be going back and forth between china and canada in a few months and i wanted to know what advice you guys had for going through customs with computers with your accounts on them. do you do it? how do you access your accounts from abroad?

Never had any issues bringing my computer on international flights, you just have to take it out of the case so they can xray it

As for managing your accounts overseas, I do this with a combination of VPNs and teamviewer, works great! No matter where you are in the world, can manage your stealth accounts easily with those two things

No issues while traveling. They don't open you computer to check it.
VPNs makes it easy from anywhere there is internet.

Come to think of it, imagine 15 years ago someone told you that you can travel anywhere and run your business from a laptop. A blessing indeed.

my other business causes me to go through secondary everytime. they do look on laptops.

I have had my computer checked by Canada customs - phone too. Technically, they need a court order to get through if you have a password but...you know how the government can be at times...if they REALLY want to hassle you, well...it can be done.

even if they check your computer, do you think they care about your ebay and paypal accounts ??

If yes, you can save everything on usb stick and then put it in a part of your body where nobody want to check

They DO check laptops(sometimes) . An American friend of mine was flying into America via Canada and he had all electronic devices searched. They are not searching for Ebay accounts, however if they look at "Ebay folder" and see 500 ebay accounts then who knows.

Some options would be encrypting your laptop and refusing to decrypt. Storing information on the cloud. Etc.

Is there a probable cause for them to search through your files like that? I don't think that's legal if they have no reason to internally search your files....

Unlikely to check deeper into ebay stuff - they are looking for the "bad" kind of images and videos...especially stuff with children

I actually think they can search the files randomly since the cause could be cited as "Border security"...

Yes in all likelihood.

Another thing to consider when travelling and accessing your ebay/amz/pp accounts via VPN, using VPN in UAE for example is illegal and they can give you a huge fine
