What are sales like with merchant accounts, but no paypal?
 

I was thinking of setting up a merchant account, as paypal is just to long winded and unsecure for sellers.

If anyone has experience with merchant accounts on ebay, what is your sales rate like compared to when you offered paypal? Do people see you don't offer paypal, and then buy elsewhere?

I don't want to open a merchant account, scan in all the docs, pay for the initial fees, and then realise that ebayers don't actually buy when paypal isn't a payment option.

BUt I gstill ot a lot of Customers when i accept Google Checkout, I did not state directly on auction but i send them email that i accept GG checkout and mostly all my customers pay with Credit card w/GG checkout. I don't think it is a problem as long as you have good feedback like 98% up, I think I give up Paypal as it is not safe for all seller, You never know when you get limited, but the only thing i 'm worried about Merchant acc. is faxing all doc to Ebay in order to get Approved. I'm afraid that Ebay will shut me down after faxing...So i just sell very low item now and wait until my acc. is over 1 month old , now i have to choose paypa as option payment but i'll send the customer message that i cannot accept paypal now. Hope it'll be ok....No Choice...:o

Hmm, so, what percentage of your sales would you say get paid for by CC?

I am also skeptical about faxing in documents.

Sales are lower if you don't accept paypal and only credit card. However if you accept credit card and mailed payment, then sales go back up.

I have never had a personal check bounce, but I've had several people pay with credit card and then falsely claim they didn't make the payment (they didn't just do the chargeback to me, but to a lot of people at once). I hold the personal checks for 10 days then it's good.

Yea, although personal cheques take so long to cash, which is a pain, especially for low value items.
