Can I use a merchat account for ebay as an alternative to PayPal in UK. Is it acceptable?

I thought it is mandatory to have a PayPal to sell on ebay.co.uk

It is mandatory to have PayPal as a payment method when selling on eBay, no getting away with that.

Most of your customers will choose PayPal because of the ease of use and they are protected.

You must accept PayPal on eBay UK unless your eBay account is very old.
