Paypal needs EIN or SSN by Jan 5th
 

Hey Guys

Paypal wants my EIN or SSN. I have a legit business name and EIN now and I gave them my EIN last year no problem however my paypal account has my stealth information. I tried to submit my EIN again but they're asking for the last four of SSN and Address. Anything I can do?

Just last 4 of SSN? That's good news.

And address is what you used signing up, right?

Thought I replied to this.

You might have to try to get another EIN.

If you have tax info on another account, you can not add info to other accounts or you create a link.

OP- are they asking you to submit a form W-9?

I just noticed the same request on one of my accounts. The W-9 clearly says I need to provide either my SSN or EIN, but are you saying after you submit the W-9 they are insisting you also give your SSN and address?

I know what triggered this in my case. Do you know what triggered it in yours? For me, the business name I gave Paypal when I converted to a business account doesn't match the name registered with the IRS. I'm just catching the mistake. I'm hoping Paypal will allow me to just update my business name.

Okay problem fixed. What happened is Paypal had my EIN and Stealth Name when they submitted last year to IRS. IRS sent them a letter stating that the info doesn't match. I paid my taxes in full so the IRS didn't care. I had to update my paypal to a business account and added the Business name and EIN that matches. Paypal accepted that and so far all is good.

Exactly the same situation I'm in. I paid my taxes last year no problem, but the 1099 did have my stealth name and address which was on the account when I bought it from here.

Problem is, my Paypal account is already a business account. However I gave them the wrong business name when I upgraded (correct EIN though), so I'm thinking that's why Paypal is asking me about this.

Hopefully it goes as smoothly for me as it did for you.

Just out of curiosity though, what happened with the request for the last 4 of your SSN and address?

The Address and last four of SS are just for security purposes when calling in I think. Either way though it was accepted so it worked.

I got the same message for the first time
I don't have an EIN so I entered a random one when I started, but now they want a real one.
Do you guys recommend opening up an LLC with stealth info, then get an EIN?
Any help appreciated, thank you!

LLC is not with stealth info, it's your info.

Yes LLC -> EIN is the proper way and works best :)
