PayPal Limited Over 5 months

Hi Everyone,

I have a PayPal account that has been Limited since Nov 19th, 2016, should my funds have already been released since its past 180 days?

I filed a complaint with the BBB, Just waiting for them to respond. I never received an email saying I would have to wait 180 days, they are just wanting me to provide documents but he amount they want is insane.

Hi there Chris,

It doesn't sound to me like you've been 'hard' limited (no appeal) and therefore have the opportunity to have it lifted.

A limitation will not expire and will become more potent if ignored, which could result in them becoming more suspicious and wanting to discontinue business with you.

You haven't stated which documents they've asked for, but since you're American, it may be more complex than I am thinking.

Once again, if you've not been limited without appeal and are pending documentation, their system isn't set to release anything after 180 days as that's for 'hard' limitations only. If you have contacted the BBB, they'll probably ask you to submit PayPal's requested documentation and if you can't present it, they might be required, depending on the regulations in America, to release your funds or they'll simply start the countdown for releasing it.

If you can produce documents, you might as well do so and save the hassle. If you can't, I'd continue to peruse them to settle some sort of outcome.

Firstly, submitting blank documentation won't normally have your account hard limited - you'd need to send a picture of a Disneyland Mickey Mouse ID Card or anything of a stupid nature to make them do that. A blank document could be a clerical error, which is probably the reason for receiving no response because when they've gone to review, there's no data to consider.

Secondly, for a list that large, you must've really aggravated them to lose their faith in your legitimacy. If the account isn't worth saving, as you want to have it permanently banned anyway, you'd best continue with the BBB and then request to have the account permanently "closed" (still opened but limited) with the funds released for withdrawal.

The fact that they're asking for an update to your phone number would suggest that they've manually screened your account, the phone operator must've sent mismatching info and then they've added that to the risk list.

You have zero evidence to support this and almost certainly it is not the case.

The number on the account is probably just inactive.

I said "suggest" which means it is a possibility of and not a certainty of. The system is different in the US and so rather than assume that I know it for sure, I'll express my opinion but not a fact. None of us are PayPal so the actual reason for the limitation or any steps included are not known, especially since it isn't our account so we can't make a conclusion.
