Does paypal actually check with a 3rd party your driver's license?

I couldn't say for a fact that they actually do the check, but why wouldn't they when they have the means?
I do know for a fact it is really easy to do. They use any and every other means available to find out who you are so why wouldn't they use your DL # as well?
It is possible for you to search for driving records and do criminal background checks by just having a copy of a driver's license. You can easily know the person or at least know their records by just typing in details of their driver's license in some of the top search engines available in the internet today. If you can't find out the information that way for free, there are many websites that will give you the information for a fee.

Just like Paypal searches your info via credit bureaus. Equifax, ect.

If this is true, and we can only speculate at this time, then Paypal would seemingly have an extra edge. Such BS!

Yes it's bs. It's total bs!! Paypal has alot of my cash floating around in limbo right now due to their partnering up with Netspend & MetaBank. Alot of cash!! And I already waited my 180 days, and I still can't get it.

When they ask for your SSN or DL number and you have a stealth account, you have to be really crafty or really prepared (ahead of time) to get around this.


Ps. Aspkin is currently working on an update for eBay stealth. I'm not sure when it will be out but I am surely anticipating it. You know it will be great.

the don't check drivers id, they check social security number.

When paypal asks for the DR, you can alway's blank out all your private information.

it costs paypal to check info through equifax for example, but the info that is available can be checked of course, BUT that doesnt explain how people send completely made-up DR to paypal and get limitations lifted...so if they check, it cant be the DR number they look at, if they do look for name and address on equifax it is either random or in cases where they are very interested and not just routine, plus it still wouldnt explain to them the people that move around alot or are not on the system for whatever reason...

personally I think its a game anyway and pp have no real interest in knowing your details, they just want to be seen to check you...its in their interests for
there to be multiple accounts....

Lets say they do check or will begin checking DL's....Are we suppose to scan a copy of it and e-mail that to them? How would they obtain the information they would be asking for?

The respective DMVs and Secretaries of State who handle the records of driver licenses can not and will not reveal any information to anyone without written consent from you or a proxy assigned by you (like to your insurance agent in your policy TOS) - unless it is by court order or by an on-duty patrol officer during a traffic violation. PP won't get squat. If you ever do consent for PP to check, it still costs 15 bucks in most states. That 15 bucks would come out of PP pocket. I don't see them ponying up the scratch.

I am using US account in TH. My paypal is limited and they want my driver license and utilities bill which I don't really have.

yes they should,,,,,,You can However "Create" a Licence and Utility bill if you use your immagination,,It will work do not worry

This is an old one but still good to discuss even more so today.

What they will do is check the address on DL to see if anyone has been banned from that address. If someone has they will then force you to provide even more info because you surely are going to say that is not you.

What does paypal if it detects that the driver's license is not correct?

The account is a goner if they believe something is wrong.

As stated above pp cannot check your DL without your permission.

I checked my states DMV and is states that you have to give a third party written permission to obtain DMV records.

So if they are asking for DL and utility you should be able to handle it. If they ask for SSN then someone else will have to chime in to help as I believe I have only been asked for this once.

@wader, I do believe that with the amount of docs they require, there is no way that they check all of them thoroughly.
If you call them up and have them guide you and act easygoing, even naive, they will be on your side & if you are creative enough with what you send, it may pass
If it didn't pass, as sandy said, kiss that account goodbye and move forward

It's actually a good deterrent to for Paypal, if you think about it, if someone doesn't have the knowledge of how Paypal works, and your details are from a previous banned account, you would run away at the first sight of sending more information in.

But luckily for us we got aspkin and stealth guide ! it's yet to be proven that they check the information on a public record/databse , so it's to be asumed they don't until further confirmation.

As for the money on the account, it varies, the most severe thing is that you have to wait for 180 to have it.
