Document Conversion?

can anyone help me with a program to rename a file , and have it actually be able to open? I have a legit document that is in rtf format and I need to get it to gif, or jpg, or pdf is possible. I have tried everything and I can remane the file but then it tells me its corrupt , especially PDF.
