Can paypal directly charge your bank account
 

My paypal was permanently limited today with the reason of acceptable use policy violation. I sell virtual items in games which I did not see being infringing on the AUP. Now im reading horror stories where people are getting thousands stolen by paypal after the 180 day period. I didnt have a lot of money in my paypal at the time but my question is, can they directly charge my bank account for their "damages" that they find, or do they just take the money that is already inside of the account at the time of limitation?

They'll take your balance after 180 days and if your account goes negative for more charges, they'll dip to your bank account.

I can just close my linked bank account completely and should be fine no?

For what it's worth there are dozens of AUP stories here and nobody said Paypal dipped into their bank account - just took the balance for themselves around the end of the 180 day mark.

I've had a "closed" bank account "come back to life" after sending PP transfers to it, but that's very unlikely to be relevant to your situation.

The only time Paypal transfers fund from your bank account is when you make a purchase and use bank fund.
There was a time Paypal offers buy now pay later,you can buy something using PAYPAL and after delivery,Paypal will debit your bank account,but that is no longer offered in USA.
For AU[ violation,if the fund withheld is not enough,Paypal would have to eat the loss if your account is already closed
