Withdrawl Made my accoutn limited and payments I recieved/ had sent out where held

I had received a payment for 700$ for selling my Laptop I had bought a few things using my balance, but after about 5 minutes I see that paypal is holding the funds from the guy who had bought my laptop and the funds I had paid to buy a few things. Why is this happening? Can someone explain to me?

captainjack1980 12-31-2009 06:16 PM

Because Paypal thinks the transaction is a fraud risk.... either on your end or the buyer of the laptop.

It will be investigated and worst case the transactions may be reversed and your account limited. I am sure you will hear from PP in due course.

I am also unverified would this have anything to do with it? Since I had bought about 600$ worth of stuff after I received payment. Could it be the amount I bought with an unverified account or amount I received?

captainjack1980 12-31-2009 06:46 PM

Yes Both.... the amount you received and the fact you funded your purchases with this same payment.

Is there a way I can get around that? Like payments under 500$ dont get flagged or?

If the account is in your name, call them and ask..
They didnt send you any emails about a hold or limitation?

fadedtwilight 12-31-2009 09:53 PM

They did send an email out about it. It says the account has been limit due to suspicious activity regarding withdrawal of funds.

yaw1800 12-31-2009 10:00 PM

When you log in, do they give you any steps t otake to remove the limitation?? I would suggest calling them, not sure if they're open tonight though.

fadedtwilight 12-31-2009 11:06 PM

It has no steps, I do plan on calling them, but my main concern is why is this happening? I dont want this to keep happening.

sadly you mean nothing to paypal They see $700 come into an account. There is nothing on the account to say you are who you are or have supplied banking /card details to verifiy you.

Paypal think you might not be on the level. Therefore they 'stop' the money.... they pretend it is to help you. It's to protect them.:fight:

How to avoid it? Become verified. Look until you get this paypal problem resolved, you might not need to consider making new accounts for paypal. Was there a reason you sold with an unverified account? If it's sensitive or you dont want to tell the whole story, send me a pm.

There's no point in parts of a story being unknown for me to give you good help :peace:

Alright, If I was verified would I be able to withdraw without being limited?

captainjack1980 01-07-2010 05:27 AM

It certainly helps! But it is impossible to do anything on PP without the threat of limitation.

You just have to do everything you can to minimise the perceived risk of user to PP.
