How do I avoid 21 day withdrawal hold on Paypal?

if i have provided ssn and confirmed bank account etc. then why is their still being 21 day holds on my funds through ebay when i make a sale through ebay? how do i avoid this? the transactions are rather large could this be one reason that this is happening? im having a hard time finding a way around this. someone please help. thank u

There is no way around it as such.

You need to build up some selling feedback with smaller sales. Once you get to 20+ DSRs you shouldn't get many holds.

Also the hold will be lifted as soon as feedback is left by the buyer or delivery is confirmed. So as long as you add tracking to PP you won't have to wait long either way.

so i basically your saying have to talk the buyer into leaving feedback if i dont want to wait 21 days? eh shouldnt be to difficult. what if their is a transaction made that goes out side ebay, and a payment is directly sent to paypal? this of course wouldnt be holded correct? thanks. so 20 dsr that means 20 sales with positive feedbacks right?

captainjack1980 01-02-2010 09:11 AM

Yes as soon as feedback is left the hold is lifted and transactions outside of Ebay don't get holds.

20 Detailed Seller Ratings - so 20 buyers need to rate you 1-5 stars. The percentage of buyers who actually bother to do this varies as much as the % who bother to leave feedback in the first place.

how does paypal verify and lift the hold right away do you know? i find it odd that they would be able to confirm feeback and would lift right away seeing as how paypal seems to drag their feet on everything? thats really how it goes down? so what if i were to basically message every one of my buyers, or tell them within the auction posting basically that they need to leave feedback could this increase my chances of getting feedback faster and weeding out the people who dont do it? thanks

pokerguru 01-02-2010 09:15 AM

also sorry, another question in regards to transactions outside ebay, if this is done does paypal still cover this transaction and if its desputed will they favor the person who sent the transaction more often then the person recievieng the payment? what if the seller also provides shipping information? thanks

captainjack1980 01-02-2010 09:31 AM

It's automatic - PP and Ebay are the same entity so they can be streamlined on occasion. You will also get an email when the hold is released. From time to time there may be a delay but I have always found it to be pretty instant.

Paypal covers INR (item not received) for purchases outside of Ebay so as long as you provide tracking they will usually side with the seller.

If you mean leave feedback before you send the item then this is unlikely to work and will just get you reported for feedback extortion. I certainly wouldn't put anything like that in the description.

i see. so it happens rather quickly. good good. well if i post on my auction that i am not going to ship the item until 15 days after payment is recieved then that pretty much covers me for my 21 day window and im not entitled to ship to them until that period of time correct? because it i clearly stated that in the auction. what if i were simply to explain to the buyer their that has been a 21 day hold placed and that i am not comfortable shipping an item to them while my funds are in limbo and on hold. and ask them to leave feedback so funds can be released? that seems farily reasonable. also what exactly is the paypal print label and tracking option thing about? thank you very much you have been very helpful.

captainjack1980 01-02-2010 09:43 AM

Just be aware to be eligible for seller protection you have to ship within 7 days of receiving a payment.

You can pay for and print your postage through paypal (it comes out of your paypal balance), and if you select tracking the buyer will automatically be updated with this info.

so you can do the entire item tracking and shipping process directly through paypal and the buyer will be presented with a tracking number correct?
i did this previously and when my buyer would enter the tracking number he would get a message stating that the postal service had no information on it. why is that? this was the only time i did it this way. maybe i did something wrong i dont know. so even if my auction states im going to ship 15 days after the end of the auction i still have to ship the item within 7 days? why do they have that option up for being able to ship in 15 days? thanks

captainjack1980 01-02-2010 09:59 AM

The 7 day dispatch time only applies to paypal payments so if you were to accept payment by another means it wouldn't be an issue (well the buyers won't be to chuffed lol).

And yes you can do the entire process through PayPal. It takes time for the tracking to be updated online.... and the item has to be scanned onto the system by your carrier in the first place.

So for example, you would need to take the item into the post office and have it scanned by a cashier. You couldn't just put it in a post box (this is how it would work in the UK).

so after i do tracking via paypal , i would have to take it to who ever my carrier is, but what do you mean by scanning it, do they label it with some kind of number that matches the online tracking number that paypal gives me? how is it actually tracked so the buyer can see where its at? also when i do this each time, do i have to present ID to my carrier who is shipping the item? thanks a ton man.

captainjack1980 01-02-2010 10:27 AM

ID is not required... You get the tracking number when you pay. The cashier/courier than enters this on their system at the point of dispatch, from which point it becomes live. It will get re-scanned at several points during the journey, right up to delivery to the buyer.

i see. got it now. still unclear where the tracking number from paypal comes into play though. so like you said when i drop the thing off i just say i want signature and confirmed tracking. so what is the point in tracking if the buyer could simply end up with an empty box or a yellow pages phone book? what protects the seller in this case if he ends up with just a box, how does he dispute such things if the buyer can provide tracking info? thanks a ton again youve been very helpful.

captainjack1980 01-02-2010 10:44 AM

The tracking number comes from the carrier/postal service - they are working in partnership with paypal (I can't give you exact details becuase I don't live in the US).

And there is plenty of opportunity for fraud in this whole process. The whole empty box/brick through the post is a well used trick on both sides.

There are avenues of appeal through PayPal but ultimately it is fraud and would be down to the police to deal with such occurances.
